Complete Cal State Bakersfield Results 3/24/08 
Bakersfield, CA--The Idaho State women's tennis team achieved their first victory of the season with a 5-2 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Monday at the Sally Ann Silva Courts. The Bengals also captured their first doubles point for the season. Idaho State improved their season record to 1-5 while the CSUB fell to 0-7 for the season.
In doubles, Bakersfield earned its first dual match doubles victory of the season when Lynott and Kaydee Graham beat Stephanie Roldan and Lauren Pascoe 8-6 at the number one spot. However, the Bengals captured victories at the number two and three spots to take the doubles point to start the match 1-0. Sophomore Lisel Lewis and Magaly Rivera teamed up to defeat Sara Mijwel and Ashlee Thorneycroft 8-6 at the number two spot. Sophomore Sophie Dang and Senior Valerie Espinosa, who competed in her first match of the season, defeated Isabella Kasselstrand and Jennifer Paet 8-5 at the number 3 spot.
In singles, the roadrunners took the top of the line-up with victories at the number one and two spots. Kati Lynott defeated Lewis 6-4, 6-2 at the number one spot. Freshman Thorneycroft picked up her first collegiate victory over Roldan 6-2, 6-1 at the number two spot. Lauren Pascoe and Espinosa had matching scores with their 7-5, 6-2 victories defeating Kaydee Graham and Sara Mijwel at the number four and five spots respectively. Rivera defeated Jennifer Paet in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at the number six spot.
Even though the dual match was decided Dang played an exciting three set match to capture her victory over Kasselstrand. Kasselstrand took the first set 7-5. Dang fought back to force a tiebreaker in the second set. She managed to save two match points the first when she was down 6-5 then managed to rally to win 9-7 and the second in the third set super tiebreaker when she was down 9-8. Dang pulled it together and won the next three points to close the match 5-7, 7-6 (9-7), 1-0 (11-9) at the number three spot.
The Bengals will compete against Cal State Bakersfield in back-to-back matches when they meet again on Tuesday afternoon at the Sally Ann Silva Courts.
