Senior Valerie Espinosa Gains Doubles and Singles Victories

Ogden, UT--The Idaho State women's tennis team played a close match against rival Weber State but fell 4-3 at the Ogden Athletic Club Saturday afternoon. The Bengals captured their second doubles point of the season gaining wins at the number two and three spots. Weber State gains their first Big Sky victory and improves their record to 1-3, while Idaho State fell to 0-4.

Senior, Valerie Espinosa gained victories in doubles and singles. Espinosa and partner Sophie Dang defeated Kelli Lindley and Elsje Beneke 8-5 at the number three doubles spot, improving their record to 2-1 for the season. Espinosa also improved her singles record to 3-1 when she defeated Keya Adamson 7-6, 7-5 at the number five spot.

Sophomore Lisel Lewis and junior Lauren Pascoe gained the other doubles victory to clinch the doubles point when they defeated Gabriela Venditto and Keya Adamson 8-3 at the number two doubles spot. Pascoe played the deciding match for the Bengals. She fought hard to take the first set 6-4, but was overcome in the second and third sets 6-4, 6-3 at the number four spot.

Magaly Rivera, a sophomore, defeated Elsje Beneke in thee sets. Rivera was overtaken in the first set 6-4, but redeemed herself by capturing the second and third set 6-4, 6-3 at the number six spot. Sophomore Lewis fell to Gabriela Venditto 7-6, 6-4 at the number one spot. Stephanie Roldan, a junior, fell to Inalise Pienaar in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at the number two spot. Sophomore Dang was defeated by Ashley Schapper 6-3, 6-2 at the number three spot.

The Bengals next match will occur at home April 12th at 2 p.m. against Northern Arizona.
