Colorado Springs, CO--Idaho State came back from another slow start to defeat Air Force 1-0 Friday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Idaho State improves to a 2-0 record while Air Force falls 0-2 for the season.

"It was not a pretty first half, a little bit frantic" said head coach Allison Gibson. "They came out playing hard but struggled a little bit with altitude."

Air Force started of strong taking five shots in the first period alone compared to Idaho State's lone shot. The falcons also had the only three corner shots during the entirety of the game in the first period. But the Bengals managed to hold off the aggressive falcons as they headed to the locker rooms tied at 0-0.

Coach Gibson motivated her players at halftime by giving the Bengal squad ownership of the game. "I didn't say much. They knew what they need to do," said Gibson. "They needed to take ownership."

Taking ownership included the Bengals creating their own starting line-up. "I left the ownership up to them and the bench never sat down in the second period."

Gibson's creative coaching effort paid off as the Bengal came on to the pitch fired up, as they were whistled with eight fouls in the second period alone. In just 1:25 freshman Benicia Brogan sprints down the right side of the field chasing a rebound that came off keeper Erin Wallace. Brogan lofted the ball over Wallace 15 yards outside the right corner of the box to score the unassisted game-winning goal, the first goal of her career. The freshmen continue to take advantage of the scoring opportunities that the returners, such as Kilee Quigley and Annamarie Hofstetter, create behind the scenes as Idaho State continues to own the midfield.

Idaho State's defense, led by senior Katie Miller, kept Air Force to only three shots in the second period as well as recording a save for the team. Freshman keeper Bailey Williams was credited with the game and made four saves, keeping the goalkeeper position a wide open door as she mirrored the stats of freshman keeper Michelle Harrison during Idaho State's first game against Utah State.

Idaho State looks to continue its undefeated season as they play Colorado College at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.
