Provo, UT--Idaho State fell in a 2-0 decision to Brigham Young, ranked 14th in the west region by soccerbuzz.com, at the South Stadium in front of 2,071 fans who gave Idaho State a standing ovation when they jogged across the field for a cool down pass.

"It was a lot of excitement and exhilaration to play in that game and they came out and just stayed focused on the task at hand and did a good job," said head coach Allison Gibson. "We need to start getting results and scoring, but that will come."

The Bengals began play aggressively as it kept Brigham Young to only four shots in the first 30 minutes of play. Freshman Ellen Larsen opened up play as she unleashed the first shot of the game in just 48 seconds of play. Larsen had two shots in the first 30 minutes of which two were on goal giving Cougar keeper McKinzie Olson two saves.

Freshman keeper Bailey Williams was kept active as she recorded five saves in the first period and numerous blocks. Unfortunately, blocked shots was not enough to keep the Cougars at bay as the first goal was scored by Whitney Feller at 32:31 when Williams went to save a ball but blocked it instead as it came off the keeper's chest and she dove to the ground to recover possession.

From there the ball jumped out from under her body and traveled to the left of Williams. As Williams made it to her feet she was turned around and ran into senior defender Katie Miller who was covering the goal. Feller stood poised and ready and took advantage of the confusion with a shot to the right bottom corner.

Williams continued to defend her goal aggressively as she threw herself into shots and blocked solid attempts by the Cougars with her body. The second goal by Brigham Young came at the 36:17 as Williams blocked a shot by Lauren Anderson to the left corner that came back out to the front right of the goal, Marshall took a shot to the bottom right corner and Williams deflected the shot again, finally Marshall connected with the ball a final time in the right corner to score the goal giving Brigham Young a 2-0 lead at the half.

Once the Cougars scored the first goal they continued to drive the offense recording nine shots in the rest of the first period and 14 in the second period alone. BYU recorded eight shots on goal in the first period and one in the second. Williams stopped several balls that were crossing the net or were stopped at the goal by the Bengal defense led by sophomores Lauren Hough and Karissa Henage, and senior Katie Miller. The ISU defense cleared out shots and forced the Cougars to aim high over causing multiple shots to clear the crossbar.

"They had to play a lot of soccer. I feel like they've played more minutes than most people even though they have played the same," said Gibson about the effort given by the Bengals defensive line. "They've done a great job and they've had to take and deal with a lot. I'm really proud of them to play against this team the way that they did was tremendous."

Idaho State had a total of nine shots as they more than doubled their opportunities in the second period. In the 76th minute the Bengals subbed in fresh legs as Ellen Larsen re-entered the game and junior Jen Munro, and freshmen Ashley Askwig and Megan Stainbrook took the field for the first time in the game. Freshman Kacey Ball saw game time in the final ten minutes of action as well and recorded a shot. With the subs came a jump start that gave ISU offensive charge holding position throughout the final ten minutes of play. Junior Annamarie Hofstetter recorded two shots all of which came in the second period.

Freshman keeper Williams ended the final seconds with the same spirit as she played the entire game, which was aggressively, as she took a charge from Jennie Marshall which caused her to flip through the air nearly three feet from the ground. Williams hit the ground in a resounding thud, but walked away from the pitch unscathed. She recorded a total of six saves while the team posted one for seven saves all told. Brigham Young had more corner kicks as they posted four to ISU's single corner.

The Bengals return to action on their home field, Davis Field, in the second annual Idaho State Classic. ISU holds a 1-0 home record for the season and looks to add to the longest home winning streak in ISU history of 13 victories.
