Pocatello, ID--In the second game of the Idaho State Classic Wyoming held possession to out-shoot Utah Valley in its 1-0 defeat of the Wolverines at Davis Field Friday afternoon. Wyoming improves to 5-4-0, while the Wolverines fall in their first loss of the season 4-1-1. Utah Valley recorded its tie against Idaho State last weekend.

Wyoming started off strong and dominated throughout the game as the Cowgirls more than doubled the total shots and shots on goal of Utah Valley. In the first period alone, Wyoming out-shot Utah Valley 10 to 2, posting a total of 17 shots to UVU's six. Wyoming also recorded ten corner kicks while the Wolverines were only able to see the corner once.

Emily Layton scored the game-winning goal off a cross from Amanda Lathrop in the 18th minute of the game. Layton is now tied with Lathrop for Wyoming's season-high five goals, however Lathrop adds to her assists as she records eight to Layton's lone assist. Lathrop improves her points for the season to 18, the team-high.

Utah Valley keeper Mallory Schott allowed only one goal in the barrage of shots and recorded six saves. Wyoming keeper Jamie Scarcliff posted three saves and her fourth shut-out of the season.

Utah Valley will return to Davis Field in its match up against UC Davis Sunday, September 21 at 11 a.m.
