Pocatello, ID--After being a player down, due to a red card, in the 69th minute Idaho State tied Wyoming 1-1 in the double overtime match to close out the Idaho State Classic on Sunday afternoon in a physical match-up at Davis Field.

Idaho State played a man down for 40: 16 after sophomore Lauren Hough was red carded when she performed a simple slide tackle just 20 yards outside the goal. However, the loss of the defender showed the perseverance and skill of the Bengals as they dominated the second overtime period with a man down. ISU matched the Cowgirls in the second overtime period with three shots a piece.

"I told them in overtime that playing a man down was going to be a character test," said head coach Allison Gibson. "I told them that you passed that test with flying colors. You handled yourself with class and that's all I can ask. In my opinion we dominated the majority of the overtime with a man down and that speaks volumes about this team."

Idaho State put four back on the defensive line to make up for the lost position and the backline responded holding Wyoming to just four shots in the first overtime period and three in the second. Wyoming unleashed 22 shots with eight on goal over the course of the game while Idaho State recorded 12 total shots.

Though the shots were lopsided, the result on the scoreboard was the same. Idaho State's Lauren Ryan, a sophomore, scored the first goal of the game 30:40 into play from freshman Megan Stainbrook and sophomore Crosby Joyner. Ryan's goal was the third of the season, as well as her career, and marks the second consecutive game in which she has scored. Wyoming's keeper Jaime Scarcliff was dashed of her third shutout and recorded a save from sophomore Taylor Powell who recorded the only other ISU shot on goal.

Wyoming's Amanda Lathrop scored the sixth goal of the season to tie the game. The goal was originally saved as freshman keeper Bailey Williams dived to her left, but the ball only paused for a moment before bouncing out of her hands and into the net. The goal was assisted by Tamika Wilson and Laine Hubbard just 5:12 after Idaho State's goal.

Freshman keeper Bailey Williams recorded seven saves and stepped up to the offensive challenge presented by Wyoming. Williams continues to prove that she is a tough athlete as she has taken more than her share of charges at goal. Against Wyoming she took several charges and tumbled to the pitch, but also ended up returning the favor as she sent a Wyoming player to the ground after jumping up in the air to take a ball out of play and knocked a Cowgirl to the ground. Williams was awarded a yellow card for the action.

In the end, the Bengals were glad to defend their goal with a man down and finish with a tie. "We would have loved to win, but I think being down a player and holding them to a tie is a great thing to do," said Ryan who scored the goal for ISU. "We still stepped up and that's a victory in itself."

Idaho State will continue to step up and travel to southern California on a road trip that will include a game against Pepperdine on September 26 at 3 p.m. on the Tari Frahm Rokus Field then have a day of rest before taking on San Diego at the Torero Stadium at 2 p.m on September 28.
