Wichita, Kansas -- If ever a volleyball coach felt like his team could come back from being down two sets to none, it was Thursday afternoon.

Idaho State forced extra volleyball in both of the first two sets against Cal State Bakersfield, and although the Bengals ended up losing both, head coach Chad Teichert felt his club had a chance to bounce back in the final three games.

Instead, the Bengals (0-5) were never in the third set, and wound up dropping the match to the Roadrunners 27-25, 26-24, 25-8 at the Best Western Shocker Classic. The team also fell to Ohio State earlier in the day 25-14, 25-21, 25-15.

After the way the squad played in the first two games, what happened in third was completely unexpected.

"Why we played so poorly in set three is something I've got to figure out so we can fix it," Teichert said. "We were in the hunt in those first two sets. It's just too bad we didn't come out and finish, because if we could have won one or both of those games, of course, things would have been different."

Idaho State trailed early in the second set but rallied to tie things up at 24-24 before the Roadrunners (1-3) closed it out. The third set, however, was a different story. CSUB attacked at a .500 percentage in the final set.

Idaho State did record 6.5 blocks to just three for CSUB. Britta Bartschi led the Bengals with 10 kills and finished with a .261 attack percentage. Freshman Karissa Legaux added 14 assists.

It gets no easier for the Bengals, who face 22nd-ranked tournament host Wichita State at 10 a.m. Friday before playing Lamar and Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
