Wichita, KS--Idaho State showed positive improvements as they were defeated by the No. 22-ranked Wichita State in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-13 at the Best Western Shocker Classic inside the Charles Koch Arena.
"They are a solid team and they did a lot of good things," said Head coach Teichert about the Shockers. "We've got to get better and fight for each point, fight for each game and match."
Wichita State improves to a perfect 6-0 record, the first time in Wichita State history that a volleyball team has had such a start to the season, ISU falls 0-6. The Shockers led a smart defensive team posting 10 team blocks to keep the Bengals out of the match.
Junior Emily Waldron posted a team high six kills during the match and had 35 attempts. "She's a good player when she's swinging," said Teichert about outside hitter Waldron. "We've got to have her swing more often." In total, ISU had 112 attack attempts, 13 more than Wichita State.
Senior Blakely Peppinger led the team with 15 assists which was 75 percent of the assists for the match. Peppinger helped ISU to a set high attack percentage of .048 in the second set. Redshirt junior Paige Palmer posted 10 of the 41 digs made by Idaho State.
Wichita State's Emily Stockman was one kill away from posting a double-double as she recorded 9 kills and 11 assists. The Shockers had a set high attack percentage of .300 in the first set. Wichita State also posted an incredible nine service aces, with four from Lindsey Eckenrode. The Bengals posted four service aces.
Idaho State will have the rest of the day to recover and watch their opponents' matches before going against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Charles Koch Arena.
