Late Surge Lifts Weber State Past Idaho State 75-61

Ogden, UT --- After pulling to within three points with four to go, Kellen McCoy drained a crazy three as the shot clock expired, igniting a 20-point outburst over the final 3:09 as Weber State swept the Bengals with their second win in two days, this one 75-61, putting them a game and a half in first place as ISu tumbled to sixth with seven to go.

The Bengals and Wildcats both shot 22-of-49 from the field, but Weber State hit two more threes and made 24-of-32 from the line. Daviin Davis, who hurt ISU late on Thursday night, hit 10-of-13 from the line and led Weber State with 19 points.

ISU bounced back from 55-45 to cut the lead to just three after a Matt Stucki three, his third, made it 55-52 with 3:49 left, and ISU forced Kellen McCoy into a double team, but with the shot clock winding down, McCoy heaved one up and it somehow swished through. ISU kept the game at six and with 1:37 left and the ball out of bounds, Weber had just two seconds to get a shot off, but they converted a lob for a three-point play by Trevor Morris, who had a game-high seven boards off the bench for the Wildcats. WSU then hit a plethora of free throws down the stretch going 11-for-13 over the last 1:35.

The Bengals opened the game hot on an 8-0 run, but WSU eventually took the lead at 19-17, and never trailed after that. ISU was down nine with a minute to go in the first half but Donnie Carson hit a tough jumper and then Matt Stucki beat the halftime buzzer with a three to make it 32-28 at the half.

The Bengals, who got outrebounded 36-27 were led by Stucki's 15, and Chron Tatum added 13. Amorrow Morgan had 11, all in the second half. For Weber State, Along with Davis' 19, McCoy added 18 and Damien Lillard had 10.

Idaho State is now a half-game out of fourth at 4-5, behind Northern Colorado (5-5), who they play on Saturday and Montana State (4-4) who hosts Portland State tomorrow.

NOTES: Chron Tatum had two dunks, including a NBA highlight reel throw down ... Matt Stucki fouled out, fouling little used Marco Ramos who tried to dunk with 10 seconds left, a play in which WSU head coach Randy Rahe apologized to Joe O'Brien for ... Demetrius Monroe did not play for the first time this season ... Stucki had nine threes on the week.
