Utah State Box Score
Logan, UT--Idaho State ended the non-conference schedule by finishing its first set piece of the season when senior Annamarie Hofstetter served up a corner kick to junior defender Karissa Henage-Fisher who buried the ball in the back of the net at the 21:11 mark to defeat Utah State 1-0 on Thursday evening. The goal was Henage-Fisher's first of the season, and her first game-winning goal. Idaho State improved to 5-4 for the season while Utah State fell to 5-6-1.
Hofstetter's assist tied her for the all-time career assists record in the Big Sky Conference with 22 sharing the title with Sacramento State's Katie McCoy who set the mark from 2004-07. Hofstetter already held the all-time career assists record at Idaho State to improve the gap with ISU's Heather Hunt-Jones who posted 18 from 2001-03.
The Bengals played aggressively out-shooting the Aggies 6-to-4 in the first period and recording five corner kicks to Utah State's three. The Bengals also recorded six fouls in the first half while Utah State posted one.
Utah State came on strong as they posted nine shots in the second to ISU's four, but none closer than 40 yards out. Idaho State's defensive line kept the Aggies at bay as four of Utah State's nine shots were on goal.
With ten seconds remaining Aggie Sydney Porter-Garner took a shot in the upper left corner for a potential tie, but ISU keeper Bailey Williams' outstretching hands snatched away the possibility. Williams' save was one of six over the course of the game leading to her first shutout of the season.
Idaho State will begin Conference Play next week at home against Montana on Thursday October 8 at 4 p.m. at Davis Field.
Notes: The game-winning goal was ISU's second corner of the contest ... Hofstetter led ISU with three shots ... The goal was Henage-Fisher's third of her career ... ISU's 1-0 shutout is the first game for the Bengals that was not won with two goals this season.
