Pocatello, ID--Senior Emily Waldron became the ninth Bengal in program history to record 1,000 career kills during Idaho State's 3-0 victory over Seattle at Reed Gym Friday night. The accomplishment is even more impressive as Waldron recorded 1,000 career points and 1,000 career digs earlier in the season to become the fifth Bengal in school history to join the Triple Crown 1,000 Career Record Club.
"To do that if only four people have done it before is a remarkable feat," said Head Coach Chad Teichert of Waldron's accomplishment. "I'm glad she had it in a match where she played well."
Waldron posted her 1,000th-career kill on ISU's third point to give the Bengals a 3-0 lead. Her ability was further proved as the contest continues as she went on to record a match-high 14 kills with a .312 attack percentage. Waldron also recorded three digs, two block assists and a service ace.
The Bengals had an up-and-down performance on their service game as the team recorded eight service aces and 13 services errors. It is Idaho State's second match where they recorded 13 service errors which occurred in ISU's 3-1 victory at Northern Arizona to open Big Sky play. However, Idaho State had only two service aces to accompany that performance.
"It's a lack of focus," said Teichert of the Bengal's high service error count. "However, we had eight service aces, so not all is lost. They were pretty fortunate. Also it's hard to maintain or get momentum when you are making those errors."
Sophomore Jaclyn Hone posted two service aces as well as the only double-double performance of the match with 10 kills and 10 digs. She maintained a .318 hitting percentage during the contest. The double-double is Hone's seventh of the season.
The Bengals dominated the offensive strike as Idaho State maintained a .257 attack percentage and held Seattle to a .051 hitting percentage. Seattle had only one double-figure of the match and it came in the form of digs as 18 were recorded by Emily Deleissegues.
Redshirt senior Paige Palmer recorded double-figures in digs with 13 to maintain her streak of 14 consecutive double-figure dig matches dating back to September 5 in ISU's contest against Arizona State. ISU's setter Karissa Legaux posted 37 assists and helped Waldron achieve her 1,000th career kill at home. The Bengals are 2-3 at home.
With the victory Idaho State improved to 9-10 while Seattle fell to 5-17 for the season. Idaho State showed improvement in their blocking abilities in brief moments against Weber State two nights previous, the Bengals continue to struggle as Seattle out-blocked Idaho State 11-to-4.
"Every day is a new day and I'm hopeful that we will perform well against UVU. They are a tall athletic team," said Teichert of Idaho State using its 3-0 victory over Seattle as a confidence boost. "They are a very good team and I'm looking forward to playing them."
The Bengals will host Utah Valley Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym as ISU looks to overcome Utah Valley on the Bengals home court as the Wolverines defeated ISU on their court 3-1 earlier in the season.
