Portland, OR-- On a rain soaked field from an earlier downpour Portland State thrived in the first half scoring from a poor defensive effort to score three goals, two by Dolly Enneking, leading to Idaho State's 4-1 loss at the PCC Rock Creek Friday night. Portland State's four goal performance doubled the most goals allowed by the Bengals this season.

Portland State improved to 3-1-1 Big Sky record for ten points to tie the Eagles who play Northern Colorado later in the evening. The Vikings are 9-6-2 for the season. Idaho State fell to 8-6-0 for the season and a 3-2-0 Big Sky record to tie for third with Northern Arizona with nine points.

"It was wet and rainy and the ball skipped a lot, but it really wasn't a factor," said head coach Allison Gibson when asked about the weather's effect on play. "We didn't play a drop of defense. I think we gave them (Enneking and Frankie Ross) so much credit and played with fear almost. They are good players and it showed in the first half scoring three goals between the two of them."

Enneking's two goals during the contest improved her season record to ten tying Eastern Washington's Brittany Sparks as the Big Sky Conference leader. She came out of the gates early with the first goal of the game at the 11:32 mark off a high cross from Kat Robertson. Viking Frankie Ross followed suit with a goal off a quick redirected ball from Amanda Dutra at the 23:03 mark to give Portland State a 2-0 lead.

Idaho State's senior Kacey Ball quickly answered back with a goal 1:07 later. Senior midfielder Annamarie Hofstetter sent a through ball past two back defenders allowing Ball to come around the backside of the cover defender. Hofstetter's assist increases her career count to 24 further improving her record holding Big Sky Conference all-time career assists tally.

Portland State's keeper Cris Lewis came out of the box and slipped a little, but was back on her feet to face Ball as the Bengals scored her second of the season.

Ball posted four shots in the match up with two on goal. Both Ashley Jones and Megan Stainbrook recorded three shots. All three of Jones' shots were on goal. Enneking posted a match-high five shots. Both of her on goal shots were goals.

With 31:10 on the clock Enneking scored a goal on an assist from Frankie Ross which the Vikings ended on going into the break. Portland State led the Bengals in shots with 13-to-8 in the first half, but matched the shot on goal count with six. Portland State posted four corner kicks to Idaho State's zero in the first.

After the break, the Bengals came out with a new purpose matching Portland State in shots with seven. Senior defender Karissa Henage-Fisher led the Bengals in a new defensive attitude in the second half.

"They decided they weren't going to settle," said head coach Allison Gibson of Idaho State's stronger second half performance during the game. "Karissa was the most outstanding defensive player in the second half, won every ball within a 15 yard radius. She really set the tone for us."

However, Portland State was able to put away one additional goal that began with a corner kick. Enneking served up the corner kick that was cleared by an Idaho State defender, but it was not out of the box as Emily Rohde scored her first goal of the season past goalkeeper Bailey Williams who posted five saves, but allowed four goals.

Williams faced 20 shots by Viking players, the most she has faced this season. The previous high was 14 achieved four times by opponents. Portland State record a .200 shot percentage and a .450 shot on goal percentage for the contest. Portland State keeper Cris Lewis recorded seven saves for the night allowing just one goal.

"When we come out strong and start well we play great, but when we don't start well we dig ourselves into a hole and tonight's hole was too deep," said Gibson. "We got our heads buried in the sand and Portland State took it to us. They played tremendous soccer."

Idaho State will head to Sacramento State to play the Hornets on Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m. MT on the Hornet Soccer Field.
