Final Stats
Sacramento State Box Score
Sacramento, CA--Another slow start stifles the momentum of the Bengals as Sacramento State posts a goal in each period to overcome Idaho State 2-0 at the Hornet Soccer Field Sunday afternoon. Sacramento State improved to 3-2-1 in Big Sky play with ten points and 8-5-4 for the season. Idaho State fell to 3-3-0 for nine points in the Big Sky and 8-7-0 for the season.
Though the Bengals had a slow start they held off the Hornets until the final seven minutes of the first half when senior Kim Kemper scored her first goal of the season. Her goal was six yards out and was placed at the left post on a cross from Shea Roberts with 37:48 on the clock. Sacramento State took the lead in the first half as they posted eight shots to ISU's three.
The second half was filled with promise as the Bengals matched Sacramento State in shots with four, but a free kick by senior Katelin Hopping to the top left corner of the goal would seal the Hornet victory at the 73:01 mark. Sacramento State posted five corner kicks in the contest and four in the second period which the Bengals defended. Idaho State had one corner kick attempt in the second half.
Senior Kacey Ball posted two shots with both on goal while Jones recorded two shots. Hornet Cori Shreve posted a game-high four shots none of which were on goal. Bengal goalkeeper Bailey Williams collected three saves during the contest.
With the loss to Sacramento State the Bengals have four different possibilities to attend the Big Sky Conference Tournament. Three options are simple with an Idaho State win. ISU needs a win and a Portland State win or tie, or ISU needs a win and an Eastern Washington loss or tie, or ISU needs a win and a Northern Arizona loss. A tie with Weber State would make chances extremely difficult but could potentially be a possibility, but numerous additional options would need to fall into place.
Idaho State host Weber State in the final home contest of the season on Halloween day, Saturday, October 31 at Davis Field. The game will be Idaho State's senior day where the Bengals will honor Annamarie Hofstetter, Christina Beseris and Ball. The game begins at 1 p.m.
