Kansas City, MO --- Trailing for nearly all of the final 30 minutes, Idaho State stole a win on the road as Broderick Gilchrest hit a 10-footer with 22.4 left for the winning points, and then stole a pass on UMKC's last gasp effort, and ISU defeated the Kangaroos 68-65 at Swinney Recreation Center on Saturday night after shooting .596 from the field.

Down 64-60 with 4:10 to play after trailing by as many as nine in the second half, the Bengals got a pair of free throws by Demetrius Monroe to cut it to 64-62. Gilchrest then tied the game with a driving layup down the right side with 2:45 to go. UMKC retook the lead with 1:33 to go when LaTreze Mushatt hit one-of-two free throws.

ISU then turned the ball over for the final time in the game, but they held defensively, forcing a bad three-point attempt, setting up Gilchrest's bucket with 22.4 left. UMKC then had a chance to take the lead, but Jay Couisnard had to shoot over Rolando Little, and Demetrius Monroe was fouled on the rebound. He hit both ends of the one-and-one to make it 68-65, and then Bakari Lewis missed a contested three, and after Couisnard got the rebound, he tried to kick it back out, but Gilchrest stole it, and the game away.

Idaho State statistically was sound all night long, but they struggled to overcome 17 turnovers, although they committed just four after halftime. The Bengals came out hot early, opening up an 11-6 lead, but the Bengals lost that lead when Kirk Korver drained the first of three straight threes to tie it at 18-18.

UMKC went up 36-33 at the half, and extended that out all the way to nine at 55-46 with 11:02 to go before ISU stormed back.

The Bengals shot well in the smaller SRC, shooting .596 for the game, including .609 in the first and .583 in the second. ISU also dominated the glass 29-19, and ISU hit .500 from the three, going 4-for-8. Morgan led ISU with 16 points, and Monroe had his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Donnie Carson had his best game of the season, scoring 10. UMKC's Jay Couisnard led the Kangaroos with 16, Baraki Lewis had 13, and Spencer Johnson had 11.

ISU now travels to take on nationally-ranked Notre Dame on Tuesday at 5:35 pm Mountain Time from the Joyce Center.

NOTES: ISU win when trailing with one minute left was the third in the O'Brien era ... the road non-conference win was ISU's first since defeating Idaho in overtime 71-69 back on December 1, 2007 ... Rolando Little had three blocks to lead the defense, and Mike Lacey had a key charge to wipe out a basket with 5:04 left that would have made it a six-point UMKC lead.
