Pocatello, ID-Idaho State posted a 7-0 loss in its first road game of the season against Weber State Thursday afternoon at the Ogden Athletic Club. With the victory the Wildcats posted their first win of the season as they improved to 1-4, while the Bengals fell to 0-2 for the season. Idaho State's top-three singles players each posted a set that went into a seven-point tie break, however they were unable to close the set.
Idaho State began the contest behind 0-1 as they dropped all three doubles matches. Junior Lisel Lewis and freshman Risa Fujiwara teamed up for the first time falling 8-2 to Keya Jenkins and Greyce Farias at the number two spot.
Lewis could not edge out her opponent as she fell in a tight two set match against Farias at the number one spot. Lewis took Wildcat Farias to a tiebreaker in the first set, but fell 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Though she held on in the second set to keep the match tight, Farias finished up a break to take the match 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at the number one singles spot.
Junior Sophie Dang also had a close match posting a tiebreaker set in the second against Caroline Drugge. Dang fell 6-4, 7-6 at the number two spot. Senior Stephanie Roldan began much like Bengal Lewis taking the first set to a tiebreaker. Roldan's opponent Jenkins started the second set with the momentum and it continued to swing in her favor overcoming the Bengal 7-6, 6-0 at the number two spot.
Two Bengals competed in their first matches of their career. Fujiwara posted a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Brittiny Moore At the number four spot and Bengal Kelli Ogborn fell 6-0, 6-0 to Elsje Beneke at the number six spot. Madison Snevily also fell 6-0, 6-0 but to Karlie Hancock at the number five position.
Idaho State will play its next two matches on Valentine's Day, February 14, in Colorado Springs, Colorado when the Bengals take on Montana at 8 a.m. and Air Force at 4 p.m.
