Complete Boise State Spring Break Tournament Day One Results Get Acrobat Reader

Boise, ID-Idaho State men's tennis team fell in the first and second rounds of the first of two days in the Boise State Spring Break Tournament on Friday. The Bengals fell 4-0 to #23 Boise State indoors at the Boas Tennis Center in the first round of the tournament, which was played championship style or first to four team points. Idaho State was then overcome 7-0 by Ball State in the second round outdoors at Julia Davis Park.

Against Boise State (12-7) the Bengals fell 8-1 at both the No. 1 and three doubles spots to go into singles play down 0-1. Freshman Dan Buckingham and junior David Kutchins were overcome by Stanley Sarapanich and Freddy Walsh at the third spot and junior Javier Royo and Danel Barrenechea were overcome by Keane Feeder and Erik Sheldon at the No. 1 spot while

Royo was overcome by #80 James Meredith 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Buckingham dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Matt Solomon at the No. 5 position. Bronco Nick Gourley defeated junior Andres Mancero in the deciding match 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

Idaho State, who falls to 0-13 for the season, was swept by Ball State (9-7) at Julia Davis Park. The Bengals had a competitive match at the No. 2 doubles spot as sophomore Alex Buceta and junior Ross DeChant led by a break for much of the match to post a 6-5 lead. Jose Perdomo and Zane Smith would overcome the Bengals in the next three games to post an 8-6 victory. Royo and Barrenechea fell 8-4 to Eduardo Pavia and Jorge Rodriguez at the No. 1 spot.

In singles, both Royo and Barrenechea completed their first sets, but then retired due to injury. Royo fell 6-4 in his first set to Perdomo at the No. 1 spot while Barrenechea fell 6-1 to Pavia at the No. 2 spot before retiring. Andres Monray defeated Buceta 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.

Junior DeChant fell 6-1 to Cliff Morrison in the first set, but made a comeback in the second as he held serve to post a 4-3 lead. Morrison would not be overcome as he broke the Bengal to begin a three-game streak for the set at the No. 4 spot. Freshman Buckingham also made a comeback in his second set against Rodriguez, but was overcome 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot. Idaho State's Mancero fell 6-2, 6-1 to Derek Carpenter at the No. 6 spot.

Idaho State will play the University of Southern Alabama at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 28 at Julia Davis Park.
