Pocatello, ID-Junior Sophie Dang improved to 4-7 for the season in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot Sunday afternoon. Dang ended a three-match losing streak by defeating Viking Alyssa Ferry. Idaho State (0-12; BSC 0-4) fell as a team dropping a 6-1 decision to Portland State (4-15; BSC 1-6) to give the Vikings their first conference victory of the season.

With a reduced roster Idaho State was forced to default the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. From the matches played Idaho State split in doubles with junior Lisel Lewis and freshman Risa Fujiwara posting an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot over Ferry and Caitlin Stocking. Dang and senior Stephanie Roldan were down 0-7 before winning the break and holding serve to capture two straight games. Idaho State was overcome 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot to give Portland State the doubles point.

In singles Dang had a competitive match with Ferry as both players held service their first times serving, and then broke each other throughout the match. The Bengal was down by a break until she held service to take a 5-4 lead. She would win three straight games to close out the first set 6-4.

In the second set Dang dropped the first game, but quickly recovered winning the next five games straight. The Viking would attempt to break back in as she broke Dang to get her foot back in the match. The 5-2 junior from France would not let Ferry back into the match. Dang held service to close out the second set 6-3, recording the winning point on a cross-court volley to the open court.

Junior Lewis, who led the Bengals at the No. 1 spot, fell 6-0, 6-2 to Molly Knox. Roldan was overcome by Anya Dalkin 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Senior Kelli Ogborn fell 6-0, 6-1 to hard-hitting Victoria Bravo at the No. 5 singles spot. Freshman Fujiwara dropped a 6-0 decision in the first set to Cailting Stocking, but made a solid comeback in the second set falling 6-4 at the No. 4 position.

Idaho State's next dual match will occur on Friday, April 3 at Reed Gym against Big Sky Conference leader Sacramento State. The Hornets will be playing Weber State at 9 a.m. on Friday morning and will make the trip up to Pocatello to begin the contest with the Bengals at 3 p.m. Start time may be delayed due to travel and length of first Hornet contest.
