Las Cruces, NM--Idaho State posted its first victory of the 2009 season defeating New Mexico State 2-1 in double overtime with 1:52 left on the clock as freshman Ashley Jones laid out for a header to score her first career goal at the Aggie Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Jones posted her first career game-winning goal off a header from inside the box six yards from the Aggie keeper Katie Graul at the 108:08 mark. Jones had five shots during the contest, all on goal.

"It was the most amazing goal I've seen in college soccer," said head coach Allison Gibson. "Ryan served it up and you couldn't tell if it was a shot or a cross but the keeper came out to save it. Then Ashley did a diving header from out of nowhere. She was completely horizontal and buried it in the far post. It was a great, great finish."

Junior Lauren Ryan assisted on Jones' game-winning goal to earn three points in the contest as Ryan scored the first goal of the game at 25:36 from the midfield 15 yards out. With the goal Ryan posted her first of the season and the fifth of her career. Ryan was assisted by freshman Rachel Strawn.

New Mexico State's Crystal Burns sent the game into overtime as she scored a goal with 3:21 left in the second period. Burns scored on an unassisted shot from centerfield 18 yards out. Aggie head coach Michael Needham was unable to see New Mexico State send the game into overtime as he was ejected with 25:50 left in regulation.

Idaho State out-shot the Aggies 25-13. The Bengals posted sixteen on goal shots, with Jones leading at five followed by senior midfielder Annamarie Hofstetter posting four on goal. The Aggies recorded just six on goal shots with Elise Nordin leading with two.

ISU Sophomore keeper Bailey Williams played all 108:08 making five saves for the game. Williams had two saves in each regulation period and one in double overtime. NMSU keeper Graul recorded 14 saves, six in each regulation period and one in each overtime period.

"It was a hard fought win, we almost gave it up," said Gibson. "We made a mistake, the fortunate thing was it sent it to a tie, and we took advantage of our chance to redeem. It was a character test and they passed with flying colors."

Idaho State returns to the pitch on Friday, August 28 against Southern Utah in Cedar City at 5 p.m.

Notes: ISU posted a season high 25 shots ... ISU 1-0 in overtime contests for 2009 ... First game ISU did not go offsides ... Aggies led the corner kick count 7-4 .... ISU posted 13 fouls to the Aggies eight.
