Tempe, AZ-- The Bengals defeated Charleston Southern in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-18) on Friday night at the Wells Fargo Arena to split on the first day of the ASU Sheraton Classic after falling to UTEP in the morning. Both sophomore Jaclyn Hone and junior Haylee Thompson posted double-figures in kills with 12 each to lead ISU.
"That's the Haylee we need on the floor," said head coach Chad Teichert. "It was a good deal, she was spanking them pretty hard."
Thompson had an impressive night posting an attack percentage of .550 for the match-high. She also posted a match-high three service aces to lead the Bengals. Idaho State recorded seven service aces total.
Outside hitter Hone was one dig shy of a double-double as she posted 12 kills with a .267 attack percentage.
The Bengals took charge in the first set to lead by ten points in the final set score. Idaho State had a close second set prevailing 26-24, before taking charge again in the third set.
"We passed-served so much better," said head coach Teichert when comparing the Charleston Southern match to UTEP's. "We served so much better and as a result I think we hit better."
ISU kept a high hitting percentage in sets one and two posting .321 and .361 respectively. Sophomore Karissa Legaux posted a match-high 38 assists and had four digs.
Idaho State improved to 4-1 in the season while Charleston Southern fell to 3-4 after taking a set off of Arizona State earlier in the day to fall 3-1 to the Sun Devils. The Bengals will take on the Arizona State in their final match of the ASU Sheraton Classic on Saturday, September 5 at 2 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Arena.
Notes: Idaho State was out-blocked 7-to-5 ... Libero Paige Palmer also posted a team-high nine digs ... UTEP will face Charleston Southern at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
