Boise, ID--Boise State scored back-to-back goals 52 seconds apart to overtake the Bengals 1-0 lead in the second half handing the Broncos a 2-1 victory at the Boas Soccer Complex in the Governor's Cup Sunday afternoon. Senior Kacey Ball and sophomore defender Megan Stainbrook were named to the Governor's Cup All-Tournament team. Boise State improved to a 3-3-0 record while the Bengals fell to 2-4-0 for the season.

Senior Ball scored Idaho State's goal, the first of her career as a Bengal, with 59:43 on the clock. Ball buried the shot in the lower right hand corner just out of the reach of keeper Jennifer Burns who posted three saves during the contest. Freshman Rachel Strawn assisted on the goal, her third of the year.

"For her to go from the back to the midfield to up top and to end with a goal is a tremendous testament," said head coach Allison Gibson of senior Ball. "That kid is so strong she has come so far in one year. I would do anything in the world to keep her for two more years, but that's the hard part of having a JC kid."

Ball had four shots, two on goal and one goal in 78 minutes of play time. She tied with Bronco Maureen Fitzgerald for the game-high shots. ISU's Lauren Ryan posted the second most shots for the Bengals with three, one was on goal.

The Broncos tied it up with 14:50 remaining as Erica Parks scored a goal with a header off a free kick from Cat Leewaye who was credited with the assist. Boise State turned around and scored just 52 seconds later on a fast break.

Defender Lauren Hough attempted a slide tackle to stop Boise State's Shannon Saxton. ISU keeper Bailey Williams got tangled up in the tackle sending her to the ground. Saxton was able to return to her feet before the fallen ISU players as she made her way to an open goal. The goal was Saxton's third of the season.

"We are slowing putting the pieces together. They came out strong, were playing good soccer holding a team to zero goals in the first half and it was one of our objectives. We did that and we did well," said Gibson. "The piece that we let go was staying with the process and staying with what was working for us. We got up one goal and started to panic and played a little sloppy and Boise State did a great job of taking advantage of that."

Williams posted five saves in the contest and faced 14 shots from the Broncos. Idaho State unleashed ten shots, five in each period.

Stainbrook held the Bengals backline in the Governor's Cup playing 20 heart-felt minutes against Idaho after taking a seat due to a bloody nose. She also played 85 minutes against Boise State.

"She'll play anywhere, she'll do anything, she'll run through a brick wall if I told her to," said head coach Gibson. "She brings so much personality and character to this team. You can't help but be her teammate and want to perform for her and want to perform at that level. She brings that every day to the field and it's tremendous."

Idaho State will have one game next week against Wyoming on Sunday, September 13 at noon in Laramie, Wyo. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
