Brendon Garcia kicked his second 50-yard field goal of the season but the Idaho State football team lost at Portland State on Saturday evening at Hillsboro Stadium, 38-3.
The Bengals are 1-4 and 0-3 in Big Sky play while Portland State improved to 2-2 and 1-0 in conference action. It was Portland State's first home game of the season. The Vikings are playing all home games this year in Hillsboro Stadium as PGE Park gets renovated.
"We looked tired and Portland State looked really fast," Idaho State coach John Zamberlin said. "Portland State played well and the bye week looked like it really helped them. I didn't see this coming. I thought we had a great plan and we practiced well."
Idaho State had 195 yards of total offense, with quarterback Kyle Morris passing for a season-best 192 yards.
Tavoy Moore caught four passes for 81 yards, a season-best. Rodrick Rumble caught four balls for 71 yards. A.J. Storms, Basim Hudeen and Chris Holmesly each led the Bengals in tackles with eight.
Portland State led 24-0 before ISU was able to get on the scoreboard with Garcia's 50-yard field goal with 43 seconds left in the first half. Garcia is two-for-two in field goals from 50-yards out.
"We have to find some offense and just keep battling and working hard," Zamberlin said.
Idaho State returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 9 for another Big Sky contest at the University of Montana. Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m.
