Bengals Fall Short of Comeback in Five Set Loss to Hornets

SACRAMENTO, Cali. - Idaho State fell short of a comeback after winning sets three and four falling to Sacramento State 3-2 (25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 24-26, 15-7) at Colberg Court Friday night. Senior Haylee Thompson-Brock posted her second double-double of her career with 14 kills and 13 digs. Thompson-Brock posted her first double-double early this season at home against Montana.

Freshman setter Lori Mendenhall was one did shy of a double-double when she posted 23 assists. Senior right side hitter Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse chipped in 12 kills while maintaining a .206 attack percentage.

Junior Jaclyn Hone posted a career-high and an ISU season game-high 26 digs against the Hornets. Jenna Proost posted 16 digs, followed by a career-high 14 digs for sophomore Breanne Van Every.

The Bengals turned their momentum around in the third set when they collected six straight points to hold a four point lead. ISU never let the Hornets back in the contest taking the set 25-23.

In the fourth set ISU held a five point lead that Sacramento State was able to work back to a set point in the Hornets favor. However, Hone, Thompson-Brock and Bartschi-Rhodehouse would smash the ball to the ground to close out the set for Idaho State. Set four saw 10 lead changes.

Senior middle blocker Sarah Carson posted a team-high six block assists. Five different Bengals chipped in service aces. Sacramento State also served tough, but the errors out-weighed the aces 14-to-6. Hornet Kayla Beal was tough to stop as she posted a game-high 20 kills.

Sacramento State improved to 10-10, 3-2 Big Sky while Idaho State fell to 10-8, 3-4 Big Sky.

Idaho State will close out its busy week with its third match at Seattle on Saturday, October 9 at 8 p.m.
