POCATELLO, Idaho - Senior midfielder Lauren Ryan scored her first goal of the season, seventh of her career, in Idaho State's 3-1 loss to Northern Colorado at Davis Field Saturday afternoon. The Bengals played a passive contest after tying the match just over six minutes into the second half allowing Northern Colorado to capture its first Big Sky victory improving to 1-0-1 and 8-3-2 for the season. Idaho State fell to 5-7-2 for the season and 0-1-1 in league action.

Sophomore Rachel Strawn had worked the ball up the field and made a tight cross from outside the six-yard box that Ryan drove to the back of the net three yards out past Northern Colorado keeper Kirstin Salminen. Strawn was credited with the assist, her fourth of the season, eighth of her career. Ryan's goal ended a 333:49 scoreless streak for the Bengals.

"Lauren Ryan was moved to the midfield and she has really improved for us there," said Head Coach Allison Gibson of the senior who hails from Rolling Meadows, Ill. "And Rachel Strawn, we have asked so much of her every single game."

Strawn led the Bengals with four shots, one of which was on goal. Ryan's accuracy was precise as her lone attempt resulted in ISU's goal. Both Taylor Powell and Allyson Stainbrook notched two shots each.

Northern Colorado out-shot the Bengals 21-10, 11-7 in the second half alone. Bear JJ Wykstra scored the first goal for Northern Colorado, assisted by Danielle Birdsall at the 24:25 mark. Birdsall notched four points in the contest as she also assisted on Brittani Knott's game winning goal off a Birdsall throw in at the 69:19 mark.

Knott returned the favor by giving a throw-in to Birdsall who worked a tight shot over ISU keeper Bailey Williams left shoulder and the goal post at the 82:47 mark in a one-on-one situation. Williams posted six saves during the contest, three in each half.

"They fought for everything. They ran through everything, they put pressure on us every time we touched the ball. They were play 100 percent and we were playing 50 percent," said Gibson of Northern Colorado's effort on the field.

"When they would get the ball we would react slowly. They would pass it and we would react, as opposed to seeing the play going up and challenging the player for the ball and that's where we were completely off today," said Gibson

Northern Colorado's Kimmie Feidler posted a game-high six shots with two on goal followed by Ariel Cook with five shots and two on goal.

Idaho State will have a tough road swing as the Bengals head to Cheney, Wash. to play its next contest at Eastern Washington on October 15 at 5 p.m. The game will turn around and travel to Missoula, Mont. to play the Griz on Sunday, October 17 at 1 p.m.
