Men's Basketball Opens Season Friday at Colorado

ISU plays at Colorado and Arizona this weekend.

Idaho State opens the season this weekend at Colorado and Arizona.
Game Notes

POCATELLO, Idaho-
Idaho State begins the 2010-11 basketball season with a road trip to Colorado of the Big 12 Conference and Arizona of the Pac-10.  Both games can be heard live on the radio, 930 AM KSEI, with Jerry Miller calling the action. Friday's game at Colorado starts at 8:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FSN Rocky Mountain. Sunday's game at Arizona starts at 3 p.m. and will be seen live on Fox Sports Arizona. This is the season opener for both Colorado and Arizona.

Bengals vs. Arizona and Colorado
Idaho State is 0-2 against Colorado. The last meeting between the two schools came in the 1998-99 season in Boulder with Colorado winning 90-62. The series between ISU and Arizona is tied at 4-4. This is the first time the two schools have met since the 1991-92 season with the Wildcats won 69-59 in Tucson. The Bengals last win over Arizona came on a neutral floor in the 1975-76 season, an 87-82 win.

Scouting Colorado
This is Colorado's home and season-opener. Last year Colorado finished 15-16 and 6-10 in the Big 12. Tad Boyle is in his first year as head coach after previously coaching at Northern Colorado. Colorado is led in scoring by the guard tandem of Alec Burks and Cory Higgins, who averaged 17.1 and 18.9 points last season.

Scouting Arizona
Arizona is coached by Sean Miller, who is in his second year as head coach. The Wildcats finished 16-15 last year. Arizona is 82-21 in season openers and Miller has never lost a season-opener in his six years as head coach. Arizona returns 11 letterwinners from last year's team and defeated
Augustana College, 70-59, on Nov. 7. Derrick Williams led the way with 19 points and six
rebounds.

The Week That Was
Idaho State played two exhibition games, defeating Montana State-Billings 92-79 and losing to Carroll College, 75-71. Broderick Gilchrest led ISU in both games as he had 21 points against MSU-Billings and 22 against Carroll College. Kenny McGowen had 14 points against Billings and 17 against Carroll while Nick Mason had 13 points against Montana State-Billings and Abner Moreira had 10 points and 20 rebounds. Deividas Busma had 13 points against Carroll College.

Idaho State Against Top Competition

Since Joe O'Brien was named head coach he hasn't backed down from top competition as he has faced 17 schools from a BCS conference in four years. This year ISU plays Colorado, Arizona and Iowa. Idaho State has yet to win one of these games.

Hello My Name Is
This year the Bengal coaching staff welcomes 11 newcomers to the team with only five returners. New to the squad are freshmen, Brandon Glanz, Nick Mason, Andre Hatchett, Conner Moore and Justin Brunswick. The junior college transfers are Kamil Gawrzydek, Kenny McGowen, Russell Wilkinson, Abner Moreira and Chase Grabau. Transfering from Central Florida is 7-4 center Jakub Kusmieruk.

Redshirting in 2010-11

Joe O'Brien has announced that junior Sherrod Baldwin and  freshman Brandon Glanz will redshirt this year. Jakub Kusmieruk must sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.
