ATHENS, Georgia- The effort was there but in the end the Idaho State football team was over powered at Georgia, 55-7 on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 92,746 at Sanford Stadium.
“Is it what it is,” Idaho State coach John Zamberlin said. “You build it with your guys as an opportunity to play in a facility like this. My guys went out and played hard. We did some good things and we can take some positive from this. It is time to go home and get ready for conference.”
The Bengal defense was led by A.J. Storms who had 16 tackles and Basim Hudeen with 14. Chris Holmesly had 11.
Phil Pleasant had five carries for 29 yards and Tavoy Moore scored Idaho State's touchdown on a 25-yard reception from Kyle Morris with 8:51 left in the game.
“We played our tails off to the very end,” Zamberlin said. “I was proud of how we represented the program and University. This is a pretty good storied program so I am proud of my guys.”
The ISU defense held Georgia to no touchdowns in the first quarter and only trailed 6-0 after the first quarter. But after two Idaho State interceptions Georgia was able to score 35 second quarter points to lead 41-0 at the break.
Idaho State returns to Big Sky action next Saturday when it hosts Sacramento State on Senior Day at 3:35 p.m.
Notes: Leki Fuapau recorded his first career reception when he caught a 17-yard pass from Russel Hill with 7:30 left in the first quarter. That was also the Bengals first first-down of the game. A.J. Storms had eight first quarter tackles. This was the furthest East Idaho State has ever played and the 92,746 fans in attendance was the largest crowd an Idaho State team has played in front of.
