POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State makes the 90 mile drive South to play in the World Vision Invitiational, sponsored by Gossner Foods at Utah State. The Bengals open the three-games in three days invitational by playing host-school Utah State on Tuesday, Dec. 21, Troy on Wednesday (Dec. 22) and Western Michigan on Thursday (Dec. 23).
Utah State leads the overall series with ISU 35-15. The Aggies have won 11 straight and the last time Idaho State defeated Utah State was in the 1981-82 season. It was a 74-70 win in Logan. Wednesday will be the first-ever meeting between ISU and Troy while Western Michigan leads the overall series with ISU 1-0. The only meeting was played in 1964-65 where Western Michigan won 62-59.
Scouting Utah State
Utah State is 8-2 with its only losses being at nationally ranked BYU and Georgetown. Tai Wesley leads the Aggies in scoring at 14.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Brian Green is second in scoring at 10.5 points. USU is scoring 69.5 points a game and shooting 45.3 percent from the field.
Scouting Troy
Troy is 1-9 with its only win being a 100-59 victory over Huntingdon to open the season. Vernon Taylor leads the team in scoring at 15.2 points a game. Troy scores 71.3 points a game and shoots 40 percent from the field.
Scouting Western Michigan
The Bronocos are 5-4 and riding a four-game winning streak after starting the season 1-4. Flenard Whitfield leads the team in scoring at 12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds game. WMU is scoring 72.2 points a game and shooting 45.4 percent from the floor.
Hot Shooting Busma
Deividas Busma is shooting 57.3 percent from the field, which ranks him 22nd in the country and fifth in the Big Sky. He is off to his best start in his Idaho State career. The Bengal senior scored in double figures in the first four games of the season but that streak was snapped against Montana Tech when he had nine points. Busma is currently averaging 12.8 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. In the victory over UMKC he was 8-of-11 from the field.
New Court to Come
Holt Arena will be getting a new basketball court this season thanks to the donation and partnership of Idaho Central Credit Union. Fans will get a chance to see the new court on Dec. 31 when ISU opens Big Sky play against Sacramento State. The ribbon cutting presentation will take place 10 minutes prior to tipoff.
