Game Notes
POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State continues its road trip as it plays at CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. This is the third meeting between the two schools and the first in Bakersfield as the series is tied at 1-1. The two teams met last year in Pocatello with CSU Bakersfield defeating ISU, 82-79.
CSU Bakersfield is 4-4 with wins over Sacramento State, Pepperdine, San Jose State and USF. Stephon Carter leads the Roadrunners in scoring at 19.9 points a game. He is shooting 50 percent from the field. Donavan Bragg is scoring 13.9 points while Alex Johnson is netting 13.1 points a game. The team's top rebounder is Rashad Savage at 10.3 boards a game. He is also scoring 9.5 points a contest. Bakersfield is scoring 74 points a game and shooting 43 percent from the field.
Hot Shooting Busma
Deividas Busma is shooting 60 percent from the field, which ranks him 33rd in the country and fourth in the Big Sky. He is off to his best start in his Idaho State career. The Bengal senior scored in double figures in the first four games of the season but that streak was snapped against Montana Tech when he had nine points. Busma is currently averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.
Big Sky Leaders
Broderick Gilchrest is currently 10th in the Big Sky in scoring at 14.5 points a game.
Deividas Busma is sixth in the league in rebounding at 6.8 boards a game while
Chase Grabau is ninth at six a game. Gilchrest is seventh in the Big Sky in free throw percentage (87.5) and 3-pointers made per game (2.2). Busma is sixth in blocked shots at 1.2.
New Court to Come
Holt Arena will be getting a new basketball court this season thanks to the donation and partnership of Idaho Central Credit Union. Fans will get a chance to see the new court by the Dec. 31 home game vs. Sacramento State.
JUCO Tough
A big reason for Idaho State's 69-57 victory over Montana Tech last Monday was the play of junior college transfers
Chase Grabau,
Abner Moreira and
Kenny McGowen. The three players combined to score 43 of the team's 69 points. McGowen and Grabau each had season and career high's of 21 and 10 points while Moreira tied his season and career-high with 12 points. Moreira also had a career-high 13 rebounds.
Idaho State Against Top Competition
Since Joe O'Brien was named head coach he hasn't backed down from top competition as he has faced 19 schools from a BCS conference in four years. This year ISU played Colorado, Arizona and Iowa. Idaho State has yet to win one of these games.
The Week That Was
Idaho State defeated Montana Tech on Nov. 29, at Holt Arena, 69-57. The win upped ISU's record to 2-3. For the third time this year ISU shot 55 percent from the floor.
Kenny McGowen scored 15 first half points and finished with 21 for the game. The Bengals then lost at Iowa on Saturday, 70-53.
Broderick Gilchrest had 14 points to lead ISU in the game.
