Final Stats
Salt Lake City, UT -- Idaho State was swept 7-0 by #66 Utah Saturday night with freshman Nate Gross taking Dmytro Mamedov to three sets before falling at the No. 5 position. Utah improves to 3-3 while the Bengals fell to 0-4 for the season.
Freshman Gross opened with a strong first set win before falling 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Gross is 2-2 for the season in singles. Sophomore Dan Buckingham pushed Timmy Allin into a tie breaker in the second set before being overcome 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) at the No. 4 position.
Dakota Pate was the first off the courts witha 6-1, 6-1 loss to Alex Golding at the No. 3 position. At the No. 1 spot senior Javier Royo fell 6-1, 6-1 to Phillip Eilers while Danel Barrenechea fell 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 position. Freshman Colton Pate was overcome 6-2, 6-2 to Stephen Jacobs at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles the Bengals dropped all three decisions. Royo and Barrenechea fell 8-2 to Eilers and Golding at the No. 1 spot. D. Pate and Buckingham teamed up for the first time this season falling to Jacobs and Benito Suriano 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. C. Pate and Gross also teamed up for the first time this season and was overcome by Artem Strunnikov and Allin at the No. 3 position in an 8-3 decision.
Idaho State's next match is Monday, February 15 at home in Reed Gym against Montana State at 10 a.m.
