Portland, OR --- When Idaho State's Rolando Little threw down a monstrous open dunk to give the Bengals an 18-17 lead, the Portland State Vikings looked to Dominic Waters for help. He delivered and more, scoring 16 straight points, giving the Vikings a lead they would never relinquish, and then PSU poured it on in the second half and clinched the final Big Sky Conference tournament berth with a 98-63 thrashing of the Bengals, ending ISU's postseason hopes.

The Bengals were in it until that dunk, as it gave ISU their only lead at 18-17 at the 11:38 media timeout, but Waters, who would score 29 points, nearly doubled PSU's point total all by himself, doing it with jump shots, free throws, three-point plays, and a three-pointer. By the time he was done with 4:27 left, it was 34-28 Vikings, and they would eventually lead 46-34 at the break.

ISU's issue in the first half wasn't so much Waters as their turnovers, as ISU had 13 miscues to just three for the Vikings, and it added up to Portland State outscoring ISU off turnovers 20-0 in the first half, and 31-6 for the game.

The second half was all Portland State as they outscored ISU 52-29, shooting .576 in the second half while holding ISU to .333, and just a 1-for-7 mark from the three.

Waters ended his night with 29, and Melvin Jones got hot in the second half to score 22 points. Jamie Jones added 15 and Chris Harriel had 10. The Vikings, who were just 2-for-14 from the field to start the game, ended up shooting 35-for-68, ending the game 33-for-54.

Idaho State got 21 from Amorrow Morgan, 15 from Demetrius Monroe, and 10 from Chron Tatum, as ISU got only 10 minutes from Broderick Gilchrest on a bum ankle. PSU outrebounded ISU 35-31.

The Bengals now head to close the season out against Eastern Washington in a bbattle of teams that entered Friday looking to get the conference's final pokayoff berth, but both lost, with Eastern going down 85-57 to Weber State.

NOTES: The 35-point loss tied for the 23rd largest margin of defeat in school history ... on a humorous note, the fans at the Stott Center were chanting "Chulupa" in a quest for the Vikings to get 100 points, but that promotion is not run at PSU games, but at Portland Trailblazer games ... Gilchrest didn't score for the first time this season ... Amorrow Morgan had eight turnovers.
