Final Stats
Cheney, WA -- Junior Danel Barrenechea captured a three set victory over Stefan Simikic of Eastern Washington in Idaho State's 6-1 loss to the Eagles Saturday afternoon at the Thorpe Fieldhouse. Eastern Washington improved to 4-5 for the season and 2-1 in league action, while the Bengals fell to 0-6 for the season and 0-3 in Big Sky play.
In doubles the Bengals captured one of the three contests as freshman Nate Gross and sophomore Dan Buckingham defeated Kevin Anderson and Kyle Koetje 9-7 at the No. 3 position.
In singles, Barrenechea lost his foothold in the second set but regained his composure to defeate Simikic 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 at the No. 2 position. Senior Javier Royo captured the first set against Nico Riego De Dios before falling 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot.
Freshman Gross' fought back in the second set, but fell in the super ten-point tie breaker 5-7, 6-2 (10-8) at the No. 5 spot to Chad Henninger.
