Cheney, WA --- Eastern Washington used a late 10-0 run at the end of the first half to give themselves a 42-32 lead at the break, and that held up as ISU got the lead down to five but no further despite a 20-point night by Demetrius Monroe, as the Eagles defeated the Bengals 79-71, giving EWU sole possession of seventh place in the Big Sky. Both teams missed the 2010 Conference Tournament.

The game was tight throughout most of the first half with eight lead changes and five ties. Walk-on freshman Todd Starks, who started at point guard in place of Broderick Gilchrest who was out with an injury, gave ISU their last lead at 22-21 with 8:48 left in the first on a layup, and after Eastern retook the lead, it was tied on a Monroe basket for the final time at 24 all. It was still 29-27 after a Morgan free throw with 4:43 left, Eastern Washington went on a closing 13-5 run.

Eastern made eight three-pointers in the first half, and 11 for the game, shooting 11-for-23 for the game. Idaho State found themselves down by 16 at 52-36, and were still down 61-46 with just under 10 minutes left when ISU went on a 10-0 run to close the game to just five points. ISU got a basket by Monroe to start the run, and then Chron Tatum had a three-point play and a regular basket to make it 61-53.

Then Starks drained a three after an inbounds play at the shot clock buzzer to make it 61-56, but Jeffrey Forbes, who was 4-for-4 from the three-point stripe, answered back with a three of his own, and Eastern pushed their lead back to eight.

ISU again whittled the lead down to six with 30.9 left at 73-67, but Eastern hit four free throws down the stretch to answer any ISU basket.

ISU outshot Eastern .491 to .464, but the Eagles outrebounded the Bengals 33-27. For Idaho State, Monroe had his second-career 20 point night, and Tatum added 13 points, with Morgan also scoring 10. For Eastern Washington, Mark Dunn and Gary Gibson each had 14 points, and Forbes added 12.

The Bengals end the year at 7-22, and just 4-12 in the Big Sky Conference. Eastern finished at 5-11 in the league and 9-21 overall.
