Cheney, WA - Senior Sophie Dang and sophomore Rilee Moorhead improves their doubles record to 5-1 when they captured an 8-5 victory over Marie Demerath and Judy Liening at the No. 2 spot in Idaho State's 7-0 loss to Big Sky leader Eastern Washington at the Thorpe Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon. Eastern Washington improved to 3-0 in league play, 6-6 for the season, while the Bengals fell to 0-3 in league action, 1-5 for the season.
In doubles, Idaho State was overcome at the No. 1 and 3 positions to begin the match down 0-1. Dang fought a tight contest in the first set of her singles match before falling 7-6, 6-3 to Demerath at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Risa Fujiwara pushed Eagle Ryann Warner into a third set tiebreaker falling 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 at the No. 6 spot.
The Bengals dropped its first match at the No. four position when freshman Amy Bettis posted just her second loss of the season when she fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to Judy Liening. Senior Lisel Lewis was overcome 6-3, 6-1 by Caitlin Bampton at the No. 1 position. Moorhead fell 6-2, 6-4 to Eagle Kelsey Knight at the No. 3 spot. Chelsea Patton defeated Madison Snevily 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
Idaho State will head to Las Vegas for the 2010 Las Vegas Challenge where the Bengals will play dual matches against Cincinnati, San Jose State and Southern Utah. The Bengals will first face-off against Cincinnati on Thursday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at the Bally's Hotel tennis courts.
