Las Vegas, NV - Idaho State (1-8, 0-3 BSC) ran out of gas as the Bengals fell 4-3 to Southern Utah in its second half of the day's double header against Southern Utah ( 6-7, 2-2 Summit) in the Las Vegas Challenge at the Bally's Hotel Tennis Courts on Friday evening. Freshmen Amy Bettis and Rachel Ryan swept their doubles and singles contests.

"Given the circumstances and timing for yesterday's and today's matches you had to figure the players would be tired, which I think made doubles more critical," said Head Coach Goeltz of ISU's three dual matches in less than 30 hours.

Bettis defeated Carmen Blanco 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 at the No. 4 spot to improve her record to 4-2 at the position. Bettis fought back from being down 4-5 in the first set to prevail in the tiebreaker and came back from being down 3-4 in the second set.

"Amy played a great match," said Goeltz. "It's not the style she wanted to play, but she won and that's what counts."

Freshman Ryan captured her first singles victory of the season with a 6-1, 7-6 (13-11) decision over Mandie Divino at the No. 6 spot, improving her season record to 1-1 in singles play.

Sophomore Rilee Moorhead fought through her tiredness to defeat Kirrily Burden in three sets, her second three set match of the Las Vegas Challenge, posting a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.

Moorhead remained perfect at the Las Vegas Challenge with a 3-0 singles record at the No. 3 spot. The sophomore improved her singles record to 6-3 for the season, matching freshman Bettis in Idaho State's record leading singles play.

Senior Sophie Dang ran out of gas in her third set after a comeback in the second. The match was her second three set match of the day. She was overcome 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 at the No. 2 position to Olga Tatarchenko. Senior Lisel Lewis fell 6-1, 6-1 to Southern Utah's Ksusha Nazarova at the No. 1 spot.

Sophomore Risa Fujiwara had a hard fought first set, but was overcome in the second falling 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to Kristi Latteier at the No. 5 spot.

The Bengals will complete their five-game road streak when they play Sacramento State on Sunday, March 28 at 9 a.m. MT.
