Corvallis, OR --- Oregon State took advantage of some wildness from ISU's pitchers in game two of a doubleheader sweep as the Beavers took care of the Bengals 12-2 in the nightcap after winning game one 8-0.
The Bengals got on the board in the first inning when Taylor Marchione led off with a double off the right field fence, and then moved to third on an error. She then scored on a wild pitch by starter Marina Demore. That run gave ISU a 1-0 lead and ended ISU's scoreless drought at 30 innings.
However, OSU answered in the bottom of the first with two runs without a hit as Nora Maschue walked three and added two wild pitches. She then allowed two more walks and four wild pitches in the second before being replaced by Kandis Clesson, who got ISU out of any further trouble.
OSU added two more in the fourth to make it 7-1 before ISU got a second run on the board in the fifth. Courtney Darby led the inning off with a walk and Jocelyn Horton bunted for a base hit. After Emily Hu forced Darby at third, both Horton and Hu moved up on a passed ball, and then scored on a two-out single by Desirae Hoffman.
Oregon State ended the game with three in the sixth when Clesson walked the bases loaded and then got a two run single from Paige Hall and a three-run home run from Audrey Roderfield to make it 12-2.
The Bengals could only muster two hits in the opening game as they suffered their fifth straight shutout. OSU's Paige Hall allowed just two singles and struck out six as Oregon State had eight hits, six for extra bases.b
The back-to-back shutouts pushed ISU's scoreless innings streak to 25 straight, including four straight shutouts.
Idaho State now heads home to Rainey Park to begin their final home season there before moving into their on campus facility, Miller Ranch Stadium, next year. The Bengals host the Great Falls Argonauts on Wednesday afternoon at noon.
NOTES: Desirae Hoffman kept her average above .400, and only once this entire season has she batted with her average below .400, that came in game three when she was 2-for-6 and singled to get her average to .429 for the year ... ISU has not scored in the last 33 innings with Kandis Clesson in the circle ... Maschue, who set a school record with 10 walks in a game earlier this year (a complete game 9-4 win over Harvard) set record for wild pitches in a game (6) and in an inning (4) ... the 10 combined walks by ISU tied the school record ... ISU is now 0-10 all-time against Oregon State.
