Ogden, UT - Idaho State women's tennis (1-12, 0-7 BSC) captured one of its three doubles contests to begin the match down 0-1 ultimately hurting the Bengals in ISU's 4-3 loss to Weber State (7-15, 3-5 BSC) at the Ogden Athletic Club Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Rilee Moorhead and senior Sophie Dang posted their first victory at the No. 1 doubles spot improving to a 1-1 record at the position with an 8-6 triumph over Greyce Farias and Elsje Beneke. The duo improved to an 8-5 record for the season.
At the No. 2 and 3 spots the Bengals fell short with Brittiny Moore and Caroline Drugge overcoming senior Lisel Lewis and sophomore Risa Fujiwara 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. Freshmen Rachel Ryan and Amy Bettis fell 8-2 to Keya Jenkins and Kassia Adamson at the No. 3 position.
Idaho State saw success in singles with three victories. Senior Lisel Lewis posted her first victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Farias at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Moorhead improved her singles win streak to three straight defeating Beneke at the No.2 spot 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. Moorhead has won six of her last seven matches.
Freshman Bettis also posted a victory when she defeated Moore 7-6, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. Senior Dang fell 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to Jenkins while sophomore Fujiwara was overcome by Drugge 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot. Wildcat Adamson posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ryan at the No. 6 spot.
The Bengals will travel to Portland, Ore. to compete in their final Big Sky match of the season on Saturday, April 17 against Portland State on neutral ground at the University of Portland.
