Box Score: Portland State 5 - Idaho State 2 
Portland, OR - Freshman Nate Gross swept his doubles and singles matches in Idaho State's 5-2 loss to Portland State on Saturday afternoon at the University of Portland's Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. Junior Danel Barrenechea posted a straight set victory at the No. 2 singles spot. Portland State ends its season with a 7-10 season record and a 4-4 Big Sky record while the Bengals fell to 1-10 for the season and 1-7 in league action.
Idaho State switched its usual doubles lineup but captured one of its three doubles contests to start the match down 0-1. Gross and sophomore Dan Buckingham improved their record to 5-4 for the season by defeating Matt Erickson and Vetu Mam 8-5 at the No. 3 spot.
Senior Javier Royo and sophomore Dakota Pate teamed up for the first time falling 8-5 to Sean Eberle and Chris Rice at the No. 1 spot. Barrenechea and freshman Colton Pate also teamed up for the first time falling 8-6 at the No. 2 position.
In singles, Gross was overcome 6-3 in his first set, but stepped his play up to take the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. Barrenechea defeated VanDerschelden 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Gross and Barrenechea improved to a 6-5 singles record for the season. Barrenechea has won five of his last six singles contests; his loss was against Weber State where he retired due to injury.
Senior Royo played his third three-set match in his last four competitions but was overcome 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. D. Pate fell 6-3, 6-0 to K. Erickson at the No. 3 spot while freshman C. Pate had a tight contest with Jeff Cero where he fell 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Buckingham's contest was the deciding match falling 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 position to Mam.
The Bengal will play their final match of the season at Utah State on Tuesday, April 20 at 3 p.m. in Logan, Utah.
