Portland, OR - Idaho State women's tennis ended the conference season with a victory defeating Portland State 6-1 at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center at Portland on Saturday afternoon. The Bengals victory marked its first Big Sky win of the season and broke a ten-match losing streak.
Idaho State improved to 2-12 for the season and 1-7 in league action to end with an eighth place finish in the Big Sky. Portland State fell to 2-17 for the season and 0-8 in league action.
The Bengals swept all three doubles contests for the second time this season. Senior Sophie Dang and sophomore Rilee Moorhead improved to 9-5 doubles record for the season with the duo's 9-8 (7-4) victory over Anya Dalkin and Caitlin Stocking at the No. 1 position.
Senior Lisel Lewis and sophomore Risa Fujiwara defeated Martha Pellicano and Nayantara Vadali 8-4 at the No. 2 spot. The freshmen duo of Amy Bettis and Rachel Ryan posted an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 spot over Kylea Gleason and Emily McClaren.
Idaho State captured five of its six singles matches opening with senior Dang's first No. 1 singles victory sweeping Dalkin 6-4, 6-0 in straight sets. Sophomore Moorhead and freshman Bettis improved their singles record to 10-4 for the season. Moorhead defeated Vadali 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot while Bettis overcame Pellicano 6-3, 4-6 (10-1) at the No. 4 position.
Sophomore Fujiwara captured the deciding match for the Bengals with her 6-2, 6-0 victory over Gleason at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Ryan defeated McClaren 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 position.
The Bengals will play their final match of the season at Utah State on Tuesday, April 20 at 3 p.m. in Logan, Utah.
