Boise, ID --- Idaho State got a three-run double in game one from Taylor Marchione, and then her monster home run in game two kick started an ISU comeback as the Bengals swept the Broncos at Mountain Cove Park 5-3 and 7-5, exacting a bit of revenge for BSU's sweep of ISU seven days earlier.

The hitting star easily was Taylor Marchione, who had a pair of doubles in game one, including a bases clearing double in the second inning that gave ISU a 3-0 lead, a lead they would never lose. In game two, she singled in the first to extend her hitting streak to 19, the second longest in Pacific Coast Softball Conference history. In the third, she unloaded a monsterous home run to center field to tie the game at 1-1, and then never saw another pitch to hit again.

The Bengals added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The first came on a Jocelyn Horton double that scored Terah Blackwell, and Megan Miller scored a fifth run when she walked with two outs, went all the way to third on a throwing error by catcher Tazz Weatherly, and then scored on a passed ball. Those insurance runs proved big when Heather Bourke nearly tied the game in the sixth.

Down 5-2 with runners on first and second, Bourke hit a long drive that the wind knocked down, and the ball hit the top of the fence for a run-scoring double, and Kandis Clesson, who pitched a complete game, got out of the inning and then got a 1-2-3 seventh to end it.

In game two, BSU opened with a home run by Kelly Sweeney in the second inning, but Marchione answered with hers to start the third. ISU broke it open with four in the fifth. Emily Hu doubled to start it, and after an intentional walk to Marchione, Desirae Hoffman beat out a bunt to load the bases. Megan Miller struck out, but Erin Olander gave ISU the lead with a ground out, and Jennifer Martensen doubled home two to make it 4-1. Courtney Darby then added another run with a single.

ISU eventually went up 7-1 on a pair of unearned runs when Miller and Olander singled home Hu and Marchione. BSU got those two back on a two-run homer by Vanessa Alverez off of Nora Maschue, who continued pitching well, going five innings, allowing five hits and just one walk. Clesson came in after the home run and got out of the sixth, but she did give up a one-out two-run homer to Ashley Viers-Gordillo in the seventh to tighten the final score.

The Bengals also got a big day from Jocelyn Horton, who had three hits on the day after having just seven entering the day. The Bengals now head to Portland State for a four-game series starting with a doubleheader at 1:00 pm Mountain Time on Saturday.

NOTES: Marchione's two doubles in game one extended her single season record to 14, and Martensen's double gave her seven, putting her in the top 10 ... Emily Hu stole second in game one, giving her a single-season record of 12 ... the PSCS record for hitting streak is 21 by Izzmena Cabrerra of Sacramento State, set last year.
