Pocatello, ID - Senior Sophie Dang and sophomore Rilee Moorhead swept their doubles and singles contests when Northern Colorado crept past the Bengals in ISU's 4-3 loss Saturday afternoon at Reed Gym. Northern Colorado improved to 4-8 for the season and 2-3 in league action while the Bengals fell to 1-10 for the season, 0-5 in Big Sky play.
Dang and Moorhead opened the dual match with an 8-4 victory over Jill Kappel and Sydney Bell at the No. 2 spot. Senior Lisel Lewis and sophomore Risa Fujiwara were overcome 8-4 by the twins Tabatha Knop and Tiffany Knop at the No. 1 spot. Freshmen Amy Bettis and Rachel Ryan fell 8-3 to Hannah LaForest and Jenny Whateley at the No. 3 position.
Moorhead captured her fourth win in her last five singles matches defeating Whateley in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Senior Dang played her sixth three set match of the season defeating Tiffany Knop 7-5, 0-6, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Freshman Bettis also posted a three set victory overcoming Lu Xavier-Crompton 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at the No. 4 spot. Bettis improved her singles record at the No. 4 position to 5-3 for the season.
Northern Colorado's Sydney Bell captured the deciding singles victory overcoming Fujiwara in the Bengals's third three set match of the day falling 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. Senior Lewis fell 6-4, 6-2 to Tabatha Knop at the No. 1 spot while Madison Snevily was overcome 6-0, 6-0 by Kappel at the No. 6 position.
The Bengals look for their first Big Sky victory of the season when they host Northern Arizona on Easter Sunday, April 4 at 1 p.m. in Reed Gym.
