PROVO, Utah - The Idaho State women's volleyball team lost 2-3 in a grueling battle to Brigham Young Saturday in the second round of the BYU Tournament in Provo, Utah. ISU dropped the first two sets before fighting back to take the next two and losing the final set 17-15. Idaho State falls to 4-1 while Brigham Young improves to 2-3.
Junior Jaclyn Hone and freshman Lori Mendenhall both recorded double-doubles for the Bengals Hone notched 10 kills and 15 digs while Mendenhall totaled up 22 assists and 11 digs. Senior Haylee Thompson-Brock led the Bengals with 23 kills while senior Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse and senior Sarah Carson chipped in with 10 apiece.
Junior Karissa Legaux added 26 assists and senior Jenna Proost extended her double-figure dig streak to five. Idaho State continued to show a strong defense at the net recording 13 team blocks for the match.
The match marked only the second of the season to go all the way to five sets and only the second five-set match against Brigham Young in the series history. The last five-set match was on Sept. 15, 1989 and was a win for ISU. That win was also the only win ISU has recorded against the Cougars as Brigham Young now leads the series 1-25.
Idaho State will play Nebraska in the third match of the tournament Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. It will be the first meeting ever for the two teams.
