POCATELLO, Idaho - Sophomore Rachel Strawn scored the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime with 6:08 remaining to capture a 1-0 win over Boise State in the fourth game of the Governor's Cup at Davis Field Sunday afternoon. Strawn was named to the 2010 Governor's Cup All-Tournament Team along with Bengal Kelsea Godfrey. The Bengals ended their two-game losing streak against the Broncos and improved to a 3-2-1 overall record while Boise State fell to 2-4-0 for the season.

Strawn, a 5-2 forward was able to finish on a chain of good plays created by a pair of young Bengals. Freshman forward Allyson Stainbrook crossed the ball from the right side to freshman Kiley Godfrey who settled the ball and made a short, quick pass to Strawn who beat a defender before challenging Boise State keeper Liz Ruiz where she sent the ball past the Bronco's left side. Strawn scored at the 93:52 mark. Strawn's goal was her second of the season, fourth of her career. Both Godfrey and A. Stainbrook where credited with the assist.

Idaho State's second period and overtime efforts showed a much improved Bengal squad than the first half. Idaho State implemented a 2x4x4 formation that left the Bengals scattered on the field. Boise State outshot ISU 6-3 in the first period, but after a solid halftime talk by Idaho State Head Coach Allison Gibson who helped the team understand where to plug the holes, Idaho State was off and running.

"We obviously switched our whole formation and our training session with it lasted all of about 10 minutes of pregame so we knew it was going to be a little hectic in the first half, we thought if we could get through it without being punished for it and get our feet under us in the first half then we could sort things out (at the half). Fortunately, we were able to come out in the second half and do a better job."

The Bengals went off to outshoot Boise State 8-2 in the second period, 13-8 overall. ISU's Strawn posted a game-high four shots and a game-high three shots on goal. The Bengals' offense had been mounting before Strawn's goal, most evident by an exceptional opportunity 42 seconds prior when A. Stainbrook headed the ball in the air seven yards out from the box where ISU senior forward Lauren Ryan collected the Ball with a header of her own to herself before taking the shot that went high over the goal.

At the 77:51 mark, the Bengals nearly tricked Boise State keeper Ruiz when Andrea Beseris took a shot at the goal where redshirt junior Taylor Powell was standing who heel flipped it back to the goal, but Ruiz was able to block the attempt. Boise State had its best attempt in the first half with a shot by Chelsea Robinson with the clock at 33:23 when she hit the crossbar 40 yards out. Robinson and Katy Oehring each posted a team-high two shots during the contest.

ISU keeper Bailey Williams recorded her second shutout of the season posting four saves after facing eight shots. The shutout is the seventh of her career, for the fifth best mark in school history.

"She always stepped up big for us when we need her," said Gibson. Especially in games where we are figuring things out or teams are out playing us or their tactical game is a bit savvier than ours. She always does a great job of getting us through those moments until we can sort things out. We'll get to the point where she doesn't have to do quite as much work in the future, hopefully."

The Bengals will return to competition extending its home stay by playing Seattle on Thursday, at 5 p.m. at Davis Field. The University of Idaho will have its chance to capture the Governor's Cup if they defeat Boise State during their conference season on Sunday, October 24 in Boise at 1 p.m. If Boise State captures the victory in regulation they will take the cup, if they win in overtime or tie Idaho will still maintain possession of the Governor's Cup.

Competition is based on direct head-to-head match results, with point scoring determining the victor. Three points are awarded for a win in regulation time, two points awarded for an overtime victory and one point awarded for a draw.

Note: Idaho State's victory stole away Boise State's chance of attaining their 100th program victory.
