POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost at Sacramento State 74-63 on Thursday evening at The Nest. Idaho State dropped to 6-14 and 2-6 in Big Sky play while Sacramento State improved to 5-15 and 2-7 in conference play.
Kenny McGowen scored 17 points off the bench, all coming in the second half to lead ISU. Broderick Gilchrest scored 14 points and Abner Moreira had 12 points and 11 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.
“Abner did a good job and he really worked hard,” Idaho State assistant coach Tim Walsh said. “He did a nice job of making plays for us.”
Idaho State shot 32.8 percent from the floor and had only 10 turnovers. The Hornets out rebounded the Bengals 43-35.
After scoring the game's opening basket, Idaho State never led in the game. They fell behind 17-2 in the first 11 minutes of the game and trailed 31-17 at halftime.
In the second half, ISU fell behind 47-29 with 12:22 to play in the game. ISU then went on an 11-4 run to cut the Sac State lead to 51-40 with 8:14 to play following two free throws by Moreira. The Bengals got within single digits at 59-50 with 3:32 remaining after Phyllip Taylor hit one of two free throws.
The Bengals got no closer than six points at 61-55 with 2:28 left in the contest thanks to a layup by McGowen. Idaho State got no closer the rest of the way.
