POCATELLO, Idaho- With 13 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns, sophomore Luke Austin has already accomplished more in six games this year than he did during the entire 2010 season, an accomplishment he chalks up to having more experience at the college level.

“It feels great to contribute to the team,” Austin said. “Last year I was young and just kind of getting used to the speed of the game and the size of everybody. This year, I'm kind of catching up and I'm actually able to run my routes full speed.”

While the experience is certainly paying off, Austin notes that the new offensive strategy of Coach Mike Kramer has definitely been a big change for the positive.

“You have to be in great shape to play in this offense because we're running 60-100 pass plays per game,” Austin said. “It's awesome getting so many passes but we also have to block because that's a big part of opening up the pass.”

Despite the Bengals' current 2-4 record, Austin remains positive about the team's efforts and looks to continue improving throughout the season.

“It's a little disappointing that we've lost these last couple games, we're just a few key plays away from being 4-1,” Austin said prior to the Montana game. “Obviously winning is the biggest goal but as far as personal goals go, I'd like to earn a starting spot and of course I want to get a scholarship. I've just been working to get better every day and hope that I can compete.”

With their Bengal Bugles, thunder sticks and cowbells, Austin adds that the ISU fans have been a great support system this season and have undoubtedly helped keep the morale of the football players high during the home games.

“It's great to see the community involved,” Austin said. “I mean I love having so many fans there. It really helps us out on those third downs and we would like it to be like that every game. We've got to get more wins to keep a great fan base here and we know that.”

Austin and the Bengals continue Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Weber State. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
