Idaho State Wraps Up Five-Match Home Stand This Weekend

The Bengals have three players averaging over two kills per set in league play led by Breanne Van Every with 3.17 kills per set.

Kylee Searle had a career-high 39 digs against Sacramento State in ISU's last match.

BENGAL OVERVIEW

Idaho State (8-7, 2-2 BSC) wraps up its five-match home streak with Montana State (0-15, 0-5 BSC) on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. and Montana (4-9, 1-4 BSC) on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.  Both matches are played at Reed Gym.  The Bengals are 2-1 on their home court.  Fans can help Can the Griz by bringing in a canned food item to receive a buy one get one free ticket deal to Idaho State's volleyball match against the Griz.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL VOLLEYBALL
Idaho State held a 2-0 lead before Sacramento State took the match in five sets.  The Bengals struggled offensively in the third, fourth and fifth sets to hit its second lowest attack percentage of the season at .063.  ISU's defensive effort kept the Bengals in the match with four players posting double-figures in digs for a  team season-high 116 digs, the second best single-game dig effort in the Big Sky Conference this season.  Breanne Van Every and Lori Mendenhall each recorded a double-double.

ABOUT THE BENGALS
Idaho State is fifth in league action with a 2-2 record having won one a match on the road and at home.  Breanne Van Every leads the Bengals with 3.17 kills per set in league action followed closely by Alydia Fields with 2.28 and Danielle Downs with 2.17 kills per set in Big Sky play.  Lori Mendenhall is ISU's setter averaging 9.06 assists per set in league play.  Libero Kylee Searle is averaging 5.33 digs per set to lead the Bengals in Big Sky matches.  Senior middle blocker Vanessa Muir leads ISU's front row defensive effort with 21 league blocks.

ABOUT MONTANA STATE
Montana State is one of two teams that has not captured a victory this season along with Weber State.  The Bobcats are 0-15 overall and 0-5 in league play but have had four five set matches.  Montana State averages a .129 hitting percentage in league action and is led by Sarah Horton with 2.37 kills per set followed by Rachelle Allen with 2.11 kills per set.  Jennifer Lundquist averaged 8.31 assists per game while Nicole Baker averaged 4.37 digs per game.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH BOBCATS
Idaho State leads the series 33-30 having won the last 10 matches.  Montana State has not beaten the Bengals since 2005 at the Big Sky Tournament.  ISU posted four set wins over the Bobcats in both meetings last season.

ABOUT MONTANA
Montana plays Weber State on Friday before meeting up with the Bengals on Saturday.  The Griz are 4-9 overall heading to Weber State and are 1-4 in league action with the team's only victory coming in a three set win over Montana State.  Montana is averaging a .165 attack percentage and is led by Kayla Reno with three kills a set while maintaining a .213 attack percentage in league play.  Brittany Quick leads the Griz with 49 blocks in conference play.  Megan Murphey leads the defensive effort with 3.45 digs per set.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH GRIZ
Montana leads the series 40-26 and have won the last three meetings.  The Griz have won nine of the last ten meetings with ISU's last victory occurring on the road at Montana in 2009 with a 3-1 victory.  In the last meeting, Montana overcame Idaho State in four sets at Montana and swept the Bengals in three sets in the last meeting at Reed Gym.

FIVE-MATCH HOME STAND
The last time Idaho State had a five-match home stand was in 2007 where the Bengals finished 2-3.  During that streak, Idaho State opened with a four set loss to Montana, then posted five set victories over Montana State and Boise State.  The Bengals then fell in four sets to Eastern Washington and Portland State.

VAN EVERY POSTS MATCH-HIGH IN KILLS FOR TWO-STRAIGHT
Junior outside hitter Breanne Van Every has recorded a match-high in kills for the last two matches notching 17 against Sacramento State and 15 against Utah Valley.  In both matches she recorded double-doubles with 11 digs against Utah Valley and 14 against Sacramento State.  Van Every has recorded a match-high in kills in seven contests this season.

BENGALS STAND STRONG DEFENSIVELY TO NOTCH CAREER-HIGHS
It was Idaho State's defensive effort against Sacramento State that sent the match to five sets.  ISU recorded a season-high 116 digs, the second best single-game dig effort in conference this season, with four players in double-figure digs; three of which notched career-highs.  Libero Kylee Searle, a redshirt freshman, recorded a career-high 39 digs.  Defensive Specialist Katie Grajewski had a career-high 18 digs.  Sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall recorded a career-high 25 digs in her double-double effort with 48 assists.  Breanne Van Every chipped in 14 digs.

TALK ABOUT A CLOSE CONTEST
Idaho State recorded a team-high 31 tied scores and 14 lead changes in Big Sky contests against Sacramento State in a five set loss.  Idaho State's season-high for tied scores in a game are 41 against Georgia State in a three-set victory.  ISU's season-high for lead changes is 21 against Utah State in a five set victory.

MENDENHALL DOUBLES DOWN
Sophomore setter Lori Mendenhall leads the Bengals with seven double-doubles this season.  She has notched 13 over her career.  Danielle Downs has recorded six double-doubles and Breanne Van Every had notched four over their careers; all recorded this season. 

BENGALS ON TOP OF THEIR GAME
The Bengals have won six of their last eight matches having only dropped five set contests against Eastern Washington and Sacramento State.  The Bengals opened conference play with a 2-1 start, the first since 2005.  In the last eight matches ISU has been 2-0 in three sets, 3-0 in four sets and 1-2 in five sets.  For the season the Bengals are 3-4 in three sets matches, 3-1 in four sets and 2-2 in five sets.  Idaho State has won nine sets and held its opponents to three sets during its home games where the Bengals are 2-1 for the season.

BENGALS CAPTURE UTAH TRIFECTA FOR FIRST TIME
Idaho State captured a Utah Trifecta when the Bengals defeated Utah State in five sets, Weber State in four and Utah Valley in three showing their improvement through the season.  The Bengals have played all three schools, Utah State, Weber State and Utah Valley, four times (2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011) but Idaho State has only won all three matches in 2011.

VAN EVERY NEARS 1,000 ATTACK MARK
Breanne Van Every is 69 attacks away from reaching the 1,000 career attack mark.  She currently has made 931 attacks.  In her first two season with the Bengals, Van Every competed primarily in the back row for the Bengals.  In this season she has already had 603 attacks, 275 more attacks than her freshman and sophomore years combined (328). 

GOING STREAKING
Kylee Searle is on a nine-match double-figure dig streak while Lori Mendenhall is on a 14-match double-figure assist streak.  Breanne Van Every is on a three-match double-figure kill streak.

BENGALS IN THE BIG SKY
• Lori Mendenhall: third in the league for assists with 9.65 per set.  Leads the 2011 season single-game high of 38 assists in a three set match against Utah Valley and 58 assists in a four set match at Wyoming.
• Kylee Searle: third in the league for digs with 4.44 per set.  Leads the 2011 season single-game high of 21 digs in three sets against Utah Valley.  Third in the league for services aces per set at 0.39 in Big Sky matches.

2010 CONFERENCE PLAY
Idaho State was 9-7 last season tying for third in the league standings.  The Bengals swept Northern Arizona, Montana State, and Weber State, and split with Portland State, Montana, and Sacramento State.  Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington were the only schools to sweep ISU.  ISU fell to the Bears in three five set matches last season including the Bengals quarterfinal match at the Big Sky tournament for the Bengals first appearance since 2005.
