SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Idaho State (13-11, 6-6 BSC) came from behind after falling 2-1 after the third set to defeat Sacramento State (14-13, 7-5 BSC) 3-2 (15-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13). The victory marks the sixth victory in program history against Sacramento State. The last time ISU defeated the Hornets was Nov. 6, 2010 when the Bengals downed Sacramento State 3-1 in Reed Gym. ISU last defeated Sacramento State at home in a 3-0 contest Nov. 7, 2009.
“We competed pretty well,” Idaho State Head Coach
Chad Teichert said. “The win is a very big deal, especially with it being in their place.”
Junior outside hitter
Breanne Van Every recorded her ninth double-double of the season during the match, notching 10 kills and 14 digs. Van Every also recorded her 18
th match of the season where she tallied double-figure kills.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Danielle Down posted 16 digs and three aces on the night, both season-highs. Downs also tallied nine kills, just one kill shy of a double-double. Redshirt sophomore defensive specialist
Katie Grajewski posted a career-high 40 digs in the match.
Freshman outside hitter Whitney Bartschi led the Bengals with 13 kills while freshman outside hitter Alydia Fields posted 10. Senior setter
Karissa Legaux put up a season-high 48 assists.
As a team, Idaho State posted a .173 hitting percentage with eight team blocks while Sacramento State tallied a .183 hitting percentage and 16 team blocks.
Idaho State returns home next week for a set of contests against Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona. It will be the last home stand of the season for the Bengals and the match against NAU on Saturday, Nov. 12 will be senior night. ISU plays Northern Colorado Friday, Nov. 11. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
“We need to win our next few matches,” Teichert said. “Right now, I think I think we are in fifth in the conference and this game will be a confidence booster that will hopefully get us to where we want to be at the end of the season. This next weekend will be huge for us as we play Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona. Northern Colorado is going to be gunning for us after we beat them in their house.”
