POCATELLO, Idaho- Broderick Gilchrest wanted redemption. After missing a last second 3-pointer to win at NAU a month ago, Gilchrest came back and hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as time expired in overtime to lift Idaho State to a 90-88 overtime victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday evening at ICCU Court in Holt Arena in front of a crowd of 2,128. The win improved the Bengals record to 8-16 and 4-8 in conference while NAU dropped to 14-10 and 6-6 in conference.

“I was due for a shot,” Gilchrest said. “This was like déjà vu. When we went to NAU I missed the shot. I had dream about this shot and it came true. It was a good game against a good team.”

Phyllip Taylor led the Bengals with a career-high 22 points while adding six rebounds off the bench in 36 minutes of play. He hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark that helped the Bengals regain the lead.

“I think Phyl has really risen and given us energy and leadership,” Idaho State coach Joe O'Brien said. “Most importantly he has been an aggressive offensive player in these last three weeks. He is a man on a mission. He likes coming off the bench.”

Four other Bengals scored in double figures led by Deividas Busma's 19 points on eight-of-nine shooting. He also had eight rebounds. Kenny McGowen had 15 points while Gilchrest scored 12 points and Abner Moreira had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Mike Lacey had nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Saturday was the first time this season the Bengals finished a game with five players scoring in double figures.

“It was a struggle the whole time but it was a total team effort,” Taylor said. “Everybody did their part. This is the best game I have been associated with my whole life.”

The Bengals shot 47.9 percent from the field and out rebounded NAU 40-30. ISU once again took care of the ball as it only turned the ball over nine times. NAU shot 53.4 percent from the field.

In the overtime period Idaho State fell down 88-84 with two minutes to play in the extra period. McGowen then hit a 3-pointer with 1:32 to play to bring ISU within one point.

With 10 seconds left in the overtime period, NAU's Cameron Jones missed a jumper and McGowen got the rebound. After an ISU timeout, Gilchrest took the ball the ball and fired the 3-pointer to give the Bengals the victory.

“It feels good to win a game like this,” Gilchrest said. “It is a moment I will never forget when I leave here. It is the highlight of my career here. My release was right and it felt good from the time I left my hand.”

The score was tied at 79 at the end of regulation. ISU trailed 45-40 at halftime thanks to 63 percent shooting from NAU. It was the first time the Bengals have won a game after trailing at intermission.

Idaho State returns to the court on Wednesday when it plays at first-place Montana at 7 p.m. The Bengals then return home to host Cal State Fullerton in Reed Gym at 4 p.m.
