POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday morning in impressive fashion by beating Seattle University 8-0 at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

"We had three goals going into this game," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "We wanted to have quality at bats, stay ahead in the count with our pitchers and play aggressive on defense and communicate well. We wanted to focus on the process. They did that really well."

The Bengals pounded out eight hits on eight runs while Kandis Clesson tossed the complete game shut-out by scattering five hits, striking out seven and walking only three batters.

"Kandis was amazing," Wright said. "To pitch a five-hit shutout was great. She was tremendous and did everything she was supposed to do."

ISU had three homeruns in the game, from Brittny Olsin, Jessica Baca and Terah Blackwell. Olsin finished the game 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored while Baca was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Blackwell was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and one run scored while Katee Wiley was 1-for-3, scoring one run. Desirae Hoffman had one hit for ISU.

"Our three, four and five hitters were awesome," Wright said. "All three were fantastic and Brittny Olsin is on fire offensively. The other kids did a good job of getting on base."

The Bengals put two runs on the board in the first inning. With one-out, Hoffman singled to center field and Olsin followed with her first homerun of the season to put the Bengals on top 2-0.

In the third inning with two outs Olsin doubled to right field and Baca followed with her first homerun and the team's second of the game to up the Bengal lead to 4-0.

Blackwell hit her two-run homerun in the sixth inning with one-out after Baca reached base via a walk. The Idaho State scoring in the seventh inning started with one-out with Wiley singled up the middle and then Amanda Fitzsimmons was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A batter later, with two outs, Olsin smacked a 2-RBI double to right-center to give ISU the 8-0 lead.

Idaho State concludes the tournament by playing Illinois State at 9 a.m. and Arizona State at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
