Bengals Host Northern Colorado on Senior Night

Four Bengals will play their final home game.

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State (9-18, 4-10) plays its final home game of the 2010-11 season when it plays host to first-place Northern Colorado (17-10, 11-3) on Monday at 7 p.m. at ICCU Court in Holt Arena. Monday is the final home game for seniors Broderick Gilchrest, Mike Lacey, Phyllip Taylor and Deividas Busma. The Bengals are still in the hunt for a berth to the Big Sky Conference Tournament but it has to win its final two games.

Idaho State leads the overall series 30-16. The Bengals have lost three straight games to the Bears and the last Bengal win over Northern Colorado was March 7, 2009, a 67-60 victory in the Big Sky Tournament in Pocatello.

Northern Colorado is 17-10 and in first place in the Big Sky Conference with an 11-3 mark. Devon Beitzel is leading the team in scoring t 20.4 points a game while Neal Kingman is second at 10.7 points. The Bears are scoring 71.8 points a game and shooting 43.2 percent from the field.

Senior Day
Monday is the final home game for senior's Broderick Gilchrest, Phyllip Taylor, Mike Lacey and Deividas Busma. Gilchrest was an honorable mention All-Big Sky player last year and Taylor, Lacey and Busma have all had their best seasons wearing the orange and black this year. All four student-athletes had their career-highs in points this year as Gilchrest had 39 at Colorado, Taylor 22 at home vs. NAU, Lacey 17 vs. UMKC and Busma 22 vs. Portland State.

Long Range
The 12 3-pointers Idaho State made against Cal State Fullerton was the most since making 13 against Northern Arizona on Feb. 1, 2007. The most 3-pointers made by an ISU team in the last six years is 15 against Montana Tech on Dec. 1, 2004.

Taking Care of the Rock
In the Bengals win at Portland State they had a season-low seven turnovers. ISU also had seven turnovers at Creighton. In the last 16 games, ISU is averaging 12.2 turnovers a game. In the first 11 games of the season ISU averaged 15.4 turnovers with a season-high of 23 at Iowa. During the 15-game stretch, the Bengals have had 11 games ofs 13 turnovers of less, three of the games being less than 10.

Solid off the Bench
Since coming off the bench, Phyl Taylor has played his best basketball of his Idaho State career since coming off the bench five games ago. He had a career-high 22 points in an overtime win over Northern Arizona on Feb. 12. He had nine points and seven assists in the 84-79 win at Portland State and he added 16 in a loss to Eastern Washington. In the nonconference win over Cal State Fullerton he had 14 points in 27 minutes off the bench.
