POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team got balanced offensive production throughout the lineup and
Kandis Clesson pitched another complete game to lead the Bengals to a 5-2 win over Sacramento State on the final day of the PCSC Crossover Tournament. The Bengals are now 2-6.
The Bengals pounded out eight hits with
Amanda Fitzsimmons and
Erin Olander each going 2-for-3. Olander had 2 RBIs while Fitzsimmons had one RBI and scored one run. The Bengals had seven of their hit eight hits from spots four through eight line lineup.
“
Amanda Fitzsimmons hit the ball well and the bottom of our lineup produced and got on base,” Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. “We were a lot more consistent one through nine this weekend.”
Clesson tossed a complete seven-inning game, allowing only five hits and striking out four.
“Kandis threw the ball great and did exactly what we needed from a senior captain,” Wright said.
The Bengals scored two runs in the first inning thanks to a two-out home run to right field by
Terah Blackwell. Blackwell's bomb scored
Desirae Hoffman, who reached base via a triple.
After the Hornets platted a run in the second, ISU came back with two runs in the fourth inning. With two outs and Blackwell on first base, Fitzsimmons double right field, moving Blackwell to third and then Olander followed with a 2 RBI single to center field to up the lead to 4-1.
Fitzsimmons tripled home Idaho State's final run in the sixth inning.
Idaho State returns to the field next weekend at the Wildcat Invitational where they will play UC Riverside, Portland State, Utah State, Minnesota and No. 3 Arizona.
