Bengal Softball Plays at Nevada

ISU plays Nevada, Northern Illinois and Saint Mary's.

Idaho State plays this weekend in a tournament at Nevada.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team continues its road swing with the Nevada Wolf Pack Blue Gray Classic March 18-20. The Bengals play six games in three days against Saint Mary's (3-6), Northern Illinois (8-9) and Nevada (7-17). The Bengals went 1-6 in the Fresno State Bayer Crop Science Classic. The Bengals victory was a 3-1 win over Troy in the first game the tournament. Amanda Fitzsimmons was named to the all-tournament team as she and Brittany Olsin each had a home run on the weekend. Fitzsimmons had a team-best five hits in the seven games.

Bengals vs. Nevada

Idaho State leads the overall series 3-2 but this is the first meeting since Apr. 16, 1983, a game the Bengals won 3-1.

Bengals vs. Northern Illinois

In the only other meeting between the two teams, ISU lost 1-0 on March 13, 2010.

Bengals vs. Saint Mary's
The series is tied 3-3. In the most recent meeting between the two schools, SMC beat ISU 6-3 on Feb. 26 of this year in the PCSC Crossover tournament at Sacramento State. The last time ISU beat Saint Mary's was March 22, 2009, a 3-1 win in Moraga.

And the Winner is...
For the second straight week an Idaho State student-athlete has earned a Pacific Coast Softball Conference weekly Player of the Week accolade. Amanda Fitzsimmons was named Mountain Divsion Pitcher of the Week for her performances in the Fresno State Bayer Crop Science Classic where she pitched 5.2 innings against Bradley, allowing only two hits and no earned runs. She was named to the all-tournament team as she also had five hits including a home run and two RBIs.

Christina Rayner was named Mountain Division Player of the Week on March 8. Rayner had 10 RBIs, a grand slam and a home run while hitting .462. Rayner only struck out once in 13 at bats. Rayner had a school record seven RBIs in the 12-9 win over UC Riverside. That is the game where she recorded her grand slam and home run.

Bengal Quick Hits
- The nine inning game against Bradley was the longest played game against a Division I opponent since the program was reinstated in 2007. ISU did have a 10 inning and two nine inning games against the College of Idaho in 2008 and 2009.
- The 12 runs scored against UC Riverside at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational tied for the most runs ISU has scored against a Division I opponent since the program was brought back. In 2007, the Bengals did score 12 runs in an extra inning loss to Utah State in 2007.
- Christina Rayner's seven RBIs against UC Riverside was a single-game school record.
- Courtney Darby and Katee Wiley both have sisters who play for Nevada.
